Early Saturday morning, Houston Police Department’s Air Support Division was summoned to provide an aerial view for officers below as they received reports of two possible bodies in a bayou. The MD 369E helicopter which flew under the callsign “75 Fox” suffered a malfunction mid-flight and began to spiral out of control before crashing into the side of an apartment building. Tactical Flight Officer Jason Knox was killed in the accident. The pilot, Senior Officer Chase Cormier survived but was critically injured. Officer Jason Knox was an 8 year veteran of the Houston Police Department and had previously served as a Harris County Deputy Constable. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. Jason had worked in the Midwest Patrol Division and the Office of Public Affairs before joining the Air & Marine Division in 2019. He was remembered for his love of vintage cars and was instrumental in restoring classic Houston Police vehicles. Officer Knox was 35 years old.
