We’re bringing together a fantastic lineup of Virginia wineries for this year’s Harvest Wine Festival! With six participating wineries, guests can taste their way through a dozens of local wines, discover new favorites, and enjoy the unique character and offerings of each vineyard and winery.

High School Volleyball 🏐

Photo gallery: Rustburg picked up a huge road win as they defeated Altavista 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-17) last night (Sept. 1) in non-district volleyball action.

Rustburg improved to 2-1 on the young season while Altavista (1-2) will regroup & host Amherst on Thursday evening at 7pm, the junior varsity game starts things off at 5:30pm.

Altavista was led by Savannah Rice (12 Digs, 2 Kills), Zoey Merricks (11 Digs), Molly Scruggs (8 Digs, 7 Assists) & Chandler Worley (2 Blocks) in the loss.

Final

The Altavista Colonels kicked off their 2026 campaign on the gridiron by hosting a familiar opponent as they faced Central Lunenburg at English Stadium last night.

For the second straight year the Chargers defeated Altavista, this time capitalizing on four first half turnovers enroute to a 28-7 victory. Central (1-0) was led by the reigning James River District Player of the Year Chad Maddox. The senior quarterback scored two touchdowns (1 rush, 1 pass) including a TD strike to receiver Jordan Kiser as the Chargers won their 13th consecutive regular season game dating back to 2024. Central had an undefeated regular season a year ago before falling in the region playoffs.

The Colonels were plagued with miscues & penalties which derailed their offense. Altavista (0-1) avoided the shutout late in the contest as junior quarterback Damarius Tanner fired a 65-yard TD pass to receiver Karsten Hughes with just under a minute left to play.

Altavista hits the road next Friday night for a 7pm showdown against Riverheads.
