Snyder Home Inspections LLC

Snyder Home Inspections LLC Residential Home Inspections and Radon testing for Buyers, Sellers, Brokers and Bankers. 45 years in the building business. Licensed Builder.

My name is Randy Snyder and I have been in the home construction business for over 30 years. I started my inspection business after several people asked me to inspect their homes and I found it was something I really enjoyed. I received my inspection license and find it very rewarding in helping people in the process of purchasing their new home. I currently serve West Michigan and the Greater Gra

nd Rapids area. Purchasing a home may be the largest investment of your life for you and your family. Many homes on the market have seen several families grow up inside their comforting walls. Now it may be you and your familes time in that home. Some people have taken excellent care of the home and some may not have. You should be aware of the condition of the home and the need for any major repairs or deficiencies before you make that commitment. A professional home inspection will help to minimize any unpleasant surprises. It will also point out the positive aspects of the home, as well as the maintenance that will be necessary to keep your new home in good shape. After a professional home inspection, you will have a clearer understanding of the home you are about to purchase.

Snyder Home Inspections has been busy with Fall inspections! Checkout this latest red alert we found in a client’s attic. K**b and tube wiring. K**b and tube wiring was an early standardized method of electrical wiring in buildings, in common use from about 1880 to the 1940s.
The insulation that envelopes the wiring is a fire hazard. We always recommend that all of this wiring be taken out immediately. In fact, most home insurance companies won’t even insure a home that has active k**b and tube wiring. Give us a call today!

Happy Monday everyone! Today's RED ALERTS are from a recent home inspection done in downtown Grand Rapids.
In the first photo below you will see a deck that is being supported improperly with cinder blocks. This deck will have major support issues, shortened life, and even become a safety issue.
In the second photo, you will notice debris that has been left in the attic from a previous fire in the home. Also, there was not nearly enough insulation or ventilation. The buyer was able to have their Realtor ask for money off for these repairs so not only did the buyer save money from having to repair these issues in the future but also received money off from the sales price. Give us a call today!

Happy Fall everyone!

We have been very busy here at Snyder Home Inspections! Below we have some recent “Red Alerts” we found at a recent inspection.

A lot of buyers don’t know how important it is to have the attic of the home inspected. The attic area can hold black mold and not have proper insulation. For example in the first photo below you will see a photo of an attic with tons of construction debris, not enough insulation and black mold which is toxic to inhale.

In the second photo you will notice the support beam of the deck is installed improperly. They put the beam on top of a brick instead of properly installing a post in the ground which will cause the deck to enclave and shorten the life expectancy of the deck.

Buying a home is the biggest purchase of your life. Make sure you have it properly inspected before you purchase!

Happy Monday everyone! Below you will find some Red Alerts that Snyder Home Inspections LLC has encountered on some recent inspections.

In the first photo, you will notice the homeowner covered the smoke alarms with plastic. The plastic is blocking the entire purpose of the alarm and is a clear safety hazard.

The second photo is a bush fix for a broken spigot handle. Although creative, not the best long term repair and can cause damage to the outside plumbing.

Happy summer everyone! We have been busy here at Snyder Home Inspections LLC with the crazy housing market. Below you will find some recent alerts in regards to foundations. A bad foundation can be the single worst thing to happen to a home because of how much they cost to repair (10s of thousands) to the amount of damage it can cause to the home.

The first photo shows there is no foundation on this end of the home. Instead it is held up by a rusty metal pole. This can cause the whole home to settle and cause major structural issues.

The second photo shows a picture of a horizontal crack in the foundation which can lead to the wall moving, settling and leaking water easily. Buying a home will be the biggest purchase you ever make, make sure you have a qualified home inspector through it befoe you purchase!
