"I'm new to the area and my son plays football at Mansion Park stadium for the Altoona Football League. My father, who is an Altoona native, says that there are a couple other fields around that are mostly unused (this could be false). Veteran’s Memorial Field and Keith Field are two fields that my father does not believe are commonly used for football. He also told me that Mansion Park is used by Bishop Guilfoyle football as well as Altoona School District.

I read on Wikipedia that the land that Mansion Park is on was sold to Altoona School District in 1930. I also read that Mansion Park boasts a 10,000-seat venue.

My curiosity questions are:

1. Why has parking never been addressed at Mansion Park? It’s been there for almost 100 years, and the parking situation is terrible. Have any groups tried to do anything about this?

2. Does Bishop Guilfoyle pay to use the field? Do they ever discuss getting a field of their own or is this just a partnership deal that has become a tradition?

3. Why don’t the other fields (Veteran’s and Keith) get used for football as well? Is this due to seating or operating costs (maybe both)? I saw Veteran’s has some nice bright lights.

Please understand that I am not trying to offend anyone just trying to figure out what is going on. I moved here from a town with a population of 5,000 people to Altoona where the population is 10x that and Mansion Park field has WAY LESS parking than my previous town.

Thanks in advance for any clarification on this issue. I just want to understand, and can we ever expect the parking situation to be improved somehow in the future? I'm aware that there isn't a ton of space but what about even creating parking elsewhere and then shuttling people to the games? Just a thought
