Pressplay (swipe) A driver says he stopped for gas off Route 23 in Riverdale, New Jersey, and noticed several men allegedly using what’s known as the “gas pump screw device method” — a scam that law enforcement agencies across the country have warned about.

The scam works by placing a small screw or object inside the nozzle cradle, preventing the pump from properly resetting after a customer finishes fueling. If the driver leaves without noticing, the transaction can remain active, allowing someone else to pump gas on the previous customer’s credit or debit card.

Authorities advise motorists to inspect the nozzle cradle before fueling, make sure the pump fully resets when returning the nozzle, and monitor bank statements for unauthorized charges.

The individuals shown in the video have not been charged, and no official determination has been made regarding their actions. The claims in this post are allegations based on the video and the observations of the person who recorded it.
