Zuckerberg is replacing creatives and taking over a big chunk of a $1 trillion market.

I’ve made my career on accurately predicting the future in media through multiple changes, here’s my observations.

This is why I sold my ad agency in 2021 to focus on in-person entertainment building immersive story hotels with Outpost.X.

I think people are going to spend most their time seeing the world and paying for new experiences.

Zuck is right when he says “what you’re basically going to see is this extrapolation of this 100 year trend where as productivity grows, the average person spends less time working and more time on entertainment and culture.”

Basically, there’s gonna be more money in the fun stuff and physical stuff and less in you hunching over a computer for 9 hours a day.

If you’re an agency, a designer, writer, most any laptop job…

Move your work into something that YOU own ASAP, or work in house at a brand and use AI to 10X your output.

Own stuff, get into assets.

My #1 advice? Get into physical things.

Blue collar, construction, not sexy stuff AI will replace last. Or stuff that’s fun.

My super super top advice? Go seller finance acquire a boring baby boomer business and make it amazing with your marketing and service opps skills, 10X’ing your output with AI.

Or build something for people when they have lots of free time on their hands.

The truth is we just don’t need everyone on laptops, and you’re not designed to be on a laptop anyways.

You’re a person, not a sit at a desk for 8 hours hunched over a computer cog.

We’re meant to be walking around all day in the sun, making food, art, music, hanging out in the soil.

Don’t fear it, don’t be defensive, don’t fight it, be water like Bruce Lee see it as an opportunity for you to pivot and evolve.

Getting humans off laptops is a great thing.

The last 20 years of laptop hunching has made people very sad.

It was very intimidating and humbling for me to leave the internet totallt start over doing construction in the middle of the desert. But I have enjoyed it so much more than building digital stuff that’s doesn’t exist.

Let’s go outside and do stuff.

The future of cinema is real life experiences

The film industry is cooked like the music industry

The money is in person

What happens when a 16 year old can make Avenger’s End Game CGI by himself on a laptop?

Think that’s far away?

It’s not.

LTX Studio just came out.

Open source, 30X faster, runs on normal laptops. You control the camera angle with your mouse, train your win character…

Where is Hollywood capital going to flow?

Location based experiences + hotels

If you’re a musician, you make your money touring

Film will be the same

The race to the bottom is reaching the bottom

Film -> CGI -> DSLRs -> AI Video

The core experience will be set art

Set artists displaced by CGI will be in big demand again and CGI artists will be displaced

I’m excited because set art (film sets) was always my favorite thing

I wrote a copywriting tool on top of GPT-3 in 2020 and that’s when I realized the laptop economy was over and I needed to pivot into building physical things

I’m 3 years in on building film set movie hotels, first one has been open for 14 months with 90% occupancy, 80M views, booked out 4 months in advance in the middle of nowhere in the desert at $400/night.

The most lucrative skill is predicting the future

I decided to dedicate the first 15 years of my career in Web 2.0 social media when only 3% of all advertising spend was in social.

People literally thought social media was a fad. Facebook didn’t have video ads yet.

I have felt this exact same way about movie hotels this last 3 years and plenty of people have been very concerned about what the heck I was doing.

But I’m not concerned. This is where things are flowing.

Add in the explosiveness of the wellness industry and OutpostX, just like Chamber Media was, is already established as the first monster wave sets up.

Here we go baby.

“There’s no way that’s gonna work”

14 months later .X

-Sold out a year before opening
-90% occupancy
-$400 nightly rate
-80M views
-100k emails
-500k website visitors
-$1.5M revenue

Nailed, now time to scale
Adding a Moroccan Berber camp with camels next

“Megalopolis” was a commercial failure, grossing $14.3 million worldwide against a budget of $136 million. The film’s domestic gross was $7.6 million.

Imagine if the funds used for a movie about building a world was used to actually build a world.

That film budget would be doing annual 20%+ cash on cash returns right now while appreciating 10% a year, and would be worth double the cost of build after a year of operating.

Media comes and goes and only exists in screens, lodging and architecture lasts centuries.

One is a luxury, the other a necessity.

Film has gone the way of music, where the main way to make money is to go on tour.

What if the way to win the streaming wars is… real estate? With thousands of displaced set builders and film investors with nowhere to put funds in a collapsing Hollywood, there’s .x

OutPostX at its core is a movie hotel that integrates elements of story immersion, landscape hotel, escape room, wellness retreat, theme park ride, and long tail IP.

OutPostX is Hollywood IRL.

OutpostX has proven this model and thesis with 17 units on 240 acres in the desert that has now been open for a year, with 90% occupancy, sold out perpetually 4 months in advance, 80M views on social media, 500k website visitors, and 100k emails collected of people seeking this experience.

Working on putting a deal together, it’s a long shot but if it works, could be pretty amazing.

The deal is acquiring a glamping company with 4 locations doing $4M rev/ $2M net a year, putting it under the OutPostX banner as the start of a platform business and continuing rollups.

The insight is that OutPostX as a brand is 100X the size of current property and we know how to make a project have insatiable demand.

So for speed to revenue the model is acquire existing properties and add in the OutPostX experience.

The ultimate vision is to employ set artists being displaced in Hollywood right now by CGI.

My wins have come from accurately predicting the future of media and being a part of that. I think the future of movies is movie hotels- fully tactile, off screen experiences.

A big resort has a similar budget as a movie, but is a physical asset that holds its value long term. People always pay for lodging in a world where people are no longer willing to pay for movies.

So our brand promise is something like:

Escape the ordinary, enter the myth, with a chance to live like the legends and feel pure agency, to live by your own rules in an unmodern utopia.

I built my last two successes by building a thesis on emerging industry studies

-The top 10 viral video formats: Led to the creation of Kobe vs Messi for Turkish Airlines for the most viral ad of all time with 150M views and 5M shares

-The 7 foundational ads: Led to scaling my ad agency to $14M/yr and a $17M/ exit

I’ve proven my thesis for OutPostX

-The 10 Mythic Subcultures and the mythic freedom manifesto- people went to escape modern life and experience a different place and time where people were more free.

I’ve identified that there is insatiable demand to enter a movie experience overnight in which you live like archetypes of people who lived closer to danger, nature, and a code of honor for survival.

ChatGPT helped me identify the top 10 subcultures or “fanbases” in America are

Vikings, cowboys, samurai, knights, desert nomads, pirates, cyberpunks, druids/nature shamans, space rebels, gladiators/wastelanders

So it’s a Hollywood approach to hotels- choosing stories that already have insatiable demand.

This is the strategy Walt Disney used with fair-use fairytales that had been in oral tradition for hundreds of years.

It’s probably time I make a movie trailer that defines all of this

There was a time…
when people lived wild and free.
Vikings. Cowboys. Samurai.
Pirates. Wastelanders. Wizards.
They didn’t escape life.
They entered it.
Fully.
Fiercely.
Fearlessly.

At OutpostX…
we remember.
We built a place beyond the edge of the map.
A place to return to the myth.
To the dust, the stars, and the fire.

This isn’t a resort.
It’s a rebellion.
A chance to live like the legends.

Welcome to OutpostX.
Where the wild ones still roam.

We’ll see how all this plays out!

15 executives came to Boise this week for my 2 day ads writing workshop, with an unforeseen outcome

The main feedback wasn’t about ads

It was about accessing a childhood creativity they haven’t had in decades

Everyone went home with 7 ads written that they can have videographers make to grow their businesses…

But I’ve learned the workshop really is teaching people how to be creative

We did live improve games, we showed them how to “spitball” ideas… basically how to perform and entertain

What that really leads to is innovation within the business….

Learning how to invent and craft new ways of communicating value

They got a tangible deliverable with an intangible awakening to something inside of themselves that has been suppressed by solving problems and operations

My next workshop is in April, 3 spots left

And now I’m realizing this is the exact same thing my immersive hotels are doing for people

I’m helping adults re-learn how to play and be creative, creating space to feel magic, to evolve

We’re all born with it and the world tries to beat it out of us

But I think we are more successful overall when we are having fun

Pursuing fun is a catalyst for innovation

The world is a better place with more of this

It feels really good

This led to another revelation

I built a sci fi hotel in the desert. That’s a cute fun gimmick right?

I fed ChatGPT my reasons for doing it, and about how my next big one will be a Viking village, because I believe that is the biggest fan base in America.

But fan base isn’t the right term for it… ChatGPT, what do you call that?

It said….

“Mythic Sub culture”

Whoa…. What? Ok. What are the top 10 mythic sub cultures in the US?

#1 Vikings

Guess what #7 and #10 are?

Star Wars Mandalorian and Wastelander / Mad Max

Wild discovery

This adds a quantative strategy to what OutPostX (my hotels) is

Hollywood chooses what movies to make based on existing demand within mythic subcultures

Mythical subcultures come from tribal mysticism

My original founding theory to build OutPostX?

That our modern world has lost its magic, a feeling of tribal connection to ancient stories and ways of life

Boom badabing

We’re onto something folks

I’m halfway done with my Pirates/Avatar/Indiana Jones jungle project in Puerto Rico- #8 on the list of mythical sub cultures

I’m about to close investment for Moroccan tents with camels in Moab- #9 & #10 on the list

The OutPostX experience isn’t a cute fun viral gimmick trend in lodging

It’s timeless lodging for the most in demand stuff in America

Here’s the list

Vikings- Honor, battle, primal
Samurai Bulshido- Honor, discipline, warrior code
Medieval- Chivalry, magic
Cyberpunk Futuristic- tech rebellion,
Fantasy/Wizards- Magic, nature, quests
Star Wars/Mandalorian- Space, rebellion, force mysticism
Pirate Culture- Freedom, rebellion
Egyptian/Ancient Alien- Mystery, immorality, ancient technology
Apocalyptic/Max Max/Wastelander- Survival, grit

I launched an ads writing workshop and the response has been amazing

March: Sold Out
April: 7 spots left
May: Just opened one in Orlando

I’m writing ads with you for 2 days, deep diving, brainstorming

You return home with 7 ads you can make low cost with a local videographer

It’s a massive market for something everyone needs and everyone can afford

I don’t think conferences are a good business model; big risk and logistical nightmare

Annual $25k inner circles are a great model, but you have to close hard and it turns into a full time job, just like 1 on 1 coaching

I’m big on workshops with groups of 15 with 2 days of in person grind, ideas, and tangible ex*****on. You return home with 7 ad scripts ready to shoot

Now I’m rolling out a virtual live option where you can spectate this process and follow along from home

No one has questioned the price or value, the only obstacle anyone has had is dates lining up with their schedule and getting to Boise

So doing this live remote spectator ticket should crush

$10k of ads has driven 600 leads so far with 23 sign ups at $3,300 per

This live thing could really scale

I’m a millennial who left the media industry at 33, totally changed careers, and entered the construction and development industry.

There are too many people in media, making more of it than people can possibly consume

It’s the same in the consumer goods market with Shark Tank and the China outsource trend

But you know what’s there’s not enough people doing?

Construction

There’s a massive housing shortage

There’s a skilled labor shortage

There’s the opportunity

If you’re getting absolutely shellacked in media and consumer goods… shift to stuff that has higher demand and lower supply

There’s only 5 things people spend more than $10,000 a year on

-Housing & home improvement
-Insurance
-Automotive
-Travel
-Healthcare

I like travel and home improvement

When I started in new media in 2009 only 3% of total media spend in the US was digital

At the time there was more demand than supply so that’s where I focused and that enabled me to be the expert in the room at a young age

But now everyone is an expert at that

It’s not that rare

Hope this was helpful or insightful for someone
