15 executives came to Boise this week for my 2 day ads writing workshop, with an unforeseen outcome
The main feedback wasn’t about ads
It was about accessing a childhood creativity they haven’t had in decades
Everyone went home with 7 ads written that they can have videographers make to grow their businesses…
But I’ve learned the workshop really is teaching people how to be creative
We did live improve games, we showed them how to “spitball” ideas… basically how to perform and entertain
What that really leads to is innovation within the business….
Learning how to invent and craft new ways of communicating value
They got a tangible deliverable with an intangible awakening to something inside of themselves that has been suppressed by solving problems and operations
My next workshop is in April, 3 spots left
And now I’m realizing this is the exact same thing my immersive hotels are doing for people
I’m helping adults re-learn how to play and be creative, creating space to feel magic, to evolve
We’re all born with it and the world tries to beat it out of us
But I think we are more successful overall when we are having fun
Pursuing fun is a catalyst for innovation
The world is a better place with more of this
It feels really good
This led to another revelation
I built a sci fi hotel in the desert. That’s a cute fun gimmick right?
I fed ChatGPT my reasons for doing it, and about how my next big one will be a Viking village, because I believe that is the biggest fan base in America.
But fan base isn’t the right term for it… ChatGPT, what do you call that?
It said….
“Mythic Sub culture”
Whoa…. What? Ok. What are the top 10 mythic sub cultures in the US?
#1 Vikings
Guess what #7 and #10 are?
Star Wars Mandalorian and Wastelander / Mad Max
Wild discovery
This adds a quantative strategy to what OutPostX (my hotels) is
Hollywood chooses what movies to make based on existing demand within mythic subcultures
Mythical subcultures come from tribal mysticism
My original founding theory to build OutPostX?
That our modern world has lost its magic, a feeling of tribal connection to ancient stories and ways of life
Boom badabing
We’re onto something folks
I’m halfway done with my Pirates/Avatar/Indiana Jones jungle project in Puerto Rico- #8 on the list of mythical sub cultures
I’m about to close investment for Moroccan tents with camels in Moab- #9 & #10 on the list
The OutPostX experience isn’t a cute fun viral gimmick trend in lodging
It’s timeless lodging for the most in demand stuff in America
Here’s the list
Vikings- Honor, battle, primal
Samurai Bulshido- Honor, discipline, warrior code
Medieval- Chivalry, magic
Cyberpunk Futuristic- tech rebellion,
Fantasy/Wizards- Magic, nature, quests
Star Wars/Mandalorian- Space, rebellion, force mysticism
Pirate Culture- Freedom, rebellion
Egyptian/Ancient Alien- Mystery, immorality, ancient technology
Apocalyptic/Max Max/Wastelander- Survival, grit
