Duncan Sheik, the singer-songwriter behind the 1996 hit “Barely Breathing,” has died at 56. He passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Manhattan, with his mother confirming that the cause of death was organ failure.

For anyone who remembers the ’90s, “Barely Breathing” is one of those songs that can instantly take you back. It was everywhere, becoming one of the most recognizable songs of the era.

The song reached No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 55 weeks on the chart. Sheik later found tremendous success in musical theater, composing the music for Spring Awakening, which earned him a Tony Award for Best Original Score.

For those of us who grew up with ’90s music, “Barely Breathing” will forever be one of the songs that takes us back.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him during this difficult time. 🙏

39 years ago today, DuckTales made its television debut! 📺✨

DuckTales: Treasure of the Golden Suns premiered as a two-hour syndicated special, introducing us to Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby, Launchpad McQuack and the rest of the Duckburg gang.

The five-part adventure followed Scrooge and the kids on a globe-trotting search for the legendary Golden Suns, with the Beagle Boys, Flintheart Glomgold and El Capitán all after the treasure.

Then, just three days later, DuckTales began its regular weekday run on September 21, 1987.

And suddenly, a whole generation had a new favorite cartoon to watch after school.

🚀 40 YEARS AGO TODAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1986…

Captain EO premiered at Disneyland, bringing Michael Jackson to Tomorrowland in one of the most unforgettable Disney attractions of the 1980s.

The 17-minute 3D musical science-fiction adventure starred Michael Jackson as Captain EO, with Anjelica Huston as the Supreme Leader. It was produced by George Lucas and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, combining music, dance, 3D effects and in-theater special effects to create an experience unlike anything most Disney guests had seen before. 🎶✨

And Disneyland wasn’t the first Disney park to get Captain EO. It had debuted at EPCOT six days earlier, on September 12, 1986, at the Magic Eye Theater in the Journey Into Imagination pavilion.

At Disneyland, Captain EO remained in Tomorrowland for more than a decade, with its original run ending in 1997. It returned in 2010 following Michael Jackson’s death, giving a new generation of Disney guests a chance to experience a piece of 1980s Disney Parks history.

🎂 On This Day, September 18, 1933, Fred Willard was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

If you grew up watching television and movies from the '70s, '80s, '90s and beyond, you almost certainly saw Fred Willard somewhere along the way.

From Fernwood 2 Night and Everybody Loves Raymond to Best in Show, Anchorman and Modern Family, Willard became one of those wonderfully familiar faces who could walk into a scene and instantly make it funnier.

And for Disney fans, he was part of some memorable favorites, too. He voiced Melvin in Chicken Little and Jack Hench in Kim Possible, appeared in Good Luck Charlie and Wizards of Waverly Place, and played Buy n Large CEO Shelby Forthright in Pixar's WALL•E.

Fred Willard passed away on May 15, 2020, at the age of 86.

Today, we remember Fred and the countless characters that made us laugh.

Before she was Hannah Montana, she was just Miley Cyrus auditioning for a Disney Channel role. 🎤✨

Miley ultimately landed the role, and the character went through name changes during development before becoming Miley Stewart.

October 1982: 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 🚧🏰

This photo captures Disneyland’s Fantasyland in the middle of its massive transformation from the original medieval fair-style land into the storybook village we know today.

The colorful tents and banners were being replaced with elaborate facades inspired by the worlds of Disney films, completely changing the look and feel of the land. Classic attractions including Peter Pan’s Flight, Snow White’s Adventures and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride were remodeled, while Pinocchio’s Daring Journey was added as a brand-new attraction.

When New Fantasyland opened on May 25, 1983, it looked dramatically different… and helped establish the level of detailed theming that Disneyland guests would come to expect. 🏰❤️

Remembering Roddy McDowall, born on this date in London, England.

Long before many of us knew him as Cornelius and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes films, McDowall was a beloved child actor. One of his most memorable early roles came in the 1943 classic Lassie Come Home, where he starred as young Joe Carraclough alongside the famous collie and a young Elizabeth Taylor.

The film was a huge success and helped firmly establish McDowall as a popular child actor. His career would eventually span more than six decades, taking him from childhood classics to science fiction, television and voice acting.

And Disney fans had plenty of opportunities to see and hear him over the years, including Mr. Jelk in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, V.I.N.CENT in The Black Hole, Mr. Soil in A Bug’s Life and Proteus in Gargoyles. He also appeared in That Darn Cat!, The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin and The Cat from Outer Space.

From Lassie to the Planet of the Apes to Disney, Roddy McDowall was part of so many different childhoods and so many unforgettable movies and shows.

Roddy McDowall passed away on October 3, 1998, at the age of 70.

What a career. What a legacy. And what a familiar face from so many of our childhoods. 🎬❤️

Peter Max has died. 🕯️

The legendary pop artist passed away Monday, September 14, at a hospital in Manhattan. He was 88. His death was announced Wednesday, September 16, by his family.

With his bold colors, cosmic imagery and unmistakable style, Max became one of the defining artists of the 1960s. His work eventually appeared everywhere from magazine covers and posters to postage stamps, airplanes and major sporting events.

In the 1990s, Max brought that unmistakable style to Disney, creating officially licensed artwork featuring some of the company's most beloved characters. 🎨✨

From the psychedelic art that helped define the '60s to Disney characters and countless other pop-culture subjects, Peter Max left behind a colorful legacy that crossed generations.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Peter. 🕯️
