TRUMP ORDERS “LAKE AMERICA” NAME FOR LAKE ONTARIO

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing U.S. federal agencies to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”

The order instructs the Interior Department and the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to update federal maps, documents and databases within 30 days. However, the change applies only to U.S. federal usage and does not determine what Canada or international organizations call the lake.

NEW USPS MAIL-BALLOT RULES TAKE EFFECT AMID COURT FIGHT

The U.S. Postal Service says new requirements governing mail-in ballots have taken effect ahead of the November midterm elections.

The rules require participating states to provide information about mail-ballot recipients and use unique barcodes on ballot envelopes. States and voting-rights groups continue to challenge the policy in court, arguing that it exceeds federal authority.
