ANCHORAGE, Alaska September 5, 2025. This new documentary film from nonprofit Affinityfilms, Inc. (About Face, And Now We Rise, World School, Sea of Oil, Backing Out of Time) will be shown locally at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub on September 21 before airing on national broadcast on PBS in November, 2025. This documentary is garnering unprecedented attention for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women movement by looking at the emotional impact on families wishing for closure and healing when facing our ineffective and sluggish justice system.
In the Wake of Justice Delayed features the stories of two families, The Miller Family of Teller, Alaska, and the Lang Family of Utquiavik. The creative team follows these families for five years to create this 56-minute show.
“I think this is the most emotional film we have tackled in our 43 years of productions. It is also beautifully shot and helps viewers understand how the land is a character as well as the people,” states producer and director Mary Katzke. “It is created with the intention of raising awareness among law enforcement, our judicial system, and potential jurors.”
“This film was physically challenging with rural location filming and weather, and continual delays by the prosecutors and defendants,” says Katzke. “Travel expenses exceeded any projections and most of our team kept contributing talents beyond compensation.”
The musical score composed by indigenous musicians Pamyua is especially relevant, elevating the production to a national level. https://www.pamyua.com/
