This week our Editor-in-Chief George Krumm is out doing Editor type things. ICAST 2025 is well underway and George is there to represent Team Fish Alaska, plus bring back all the relevant industry news and exciting gear for our fisheries. As an avid rod builder and gear aficionado, George enjoyed getting to spend a little time with world-renowned rodbuilder Doc Ski at the Batson Enterprises booth. Some of Doc Ski’s fantastic weaves and butt wraps are shown in the photos.

Check out the action at the Valdez Halibut Derby!

Week 6 shook things up when Kreed Jones of Chugiak landed a 177.8-pound halibut, bumping Melissa Hurd of Fairbanks into second after her 144.2-pounder led the board. Isabel Tsigonis, also from Fairbanks, rounds out third with a 143.4-pound catch. The derby runs through August 31, and the kids derby is set for July 19. Still time to reel in a winner!
