Mummy portraits, like the remarkable unnamed woman from the 2nd Century CE, were created to assist souls in achieving immortality. This technique gained popularity in the 1st Century, where naturalistic paintings, mostly executed in encaustic, were placed over mummies. Known as Fayum portraits, they originated in Greek cemeteries but spread across Egypt until the mummification practice ended in the 4th Century. This captivating art form is displayed at the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo.

Carreg Cennen Castle is one of Wales’ most dramatic and picturesque medieval castles, perched atop a limestone cliff overlooking the River Cennen in Carmarthenshire.

Its striking location on a steep hill provides breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, including the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Built by Edward I’s loyal baron John Giffard at the end of the 13th century, you feel an incredible sense of drama and remoteness.

Is This the Largest Man-Made Stone in the World? 🤯

Tucked away in the ancient city of Baalbek, Lebanon, lies one of archaeology’s greatest mysteries: a massive monolith estimated to weigh a jaw-dropping 1,650 tonnes (that’s over 3.3 million pounds)! Measuring around 64 feet (19.6 meters) in length, this stone has baffled engineers and historians alike.

🛠️ How did ancient people move something so massive—without modern machinery?

Just nearby, the mighty Temple of Jupiter stands tall, built on a platform of 27 enormous limestone blocks, including the famous Trilithon, each weighing up to 1,000 tonnes. The precision and scale are mind-blowing, and the techniques? Still a mystery.

🌍 Some believe Baalbek is proof of a lost advanced civilization—like those behind Nan Madol, Gunung Padang, or even the Great Pyramid. Were our ancestors far more advanced than we realize?

💬 What do YOU think?
Was this built by Roman engineers… or someone far older and more advanced?
