I’ve been asked a lot about my scars and how many surgeries I’ve had.On October 27th, 2021, I had my initial double mastectomy to an aesthetic flat closure due to being BRCA positive.I wasn’t happy with the extra skin I had on one side so on June 6, 2022, I had my first revision on the front portion of my left scar.As time went on I still wasn’t happy with the way my skin gathered/cupped at the bottom of my chest when I was in a “relaxed” position or the divot in my upper right chest and got a 2nd revision on December 11, 2024.I chose a plastic surgeon who had experience with top surgery closures and we decided to do some lypo with fat grafting to help with the divot left behind from too much fat being removed during my original surgery and we also removed my inframammary fold to stop my skin from gathering into cups on the bottom of my chest.My insurance covered my initial surgery due to having a family history of breast cancer and BRCA and my revisions were covered under my initial surgery.

The older I get, the more I realize that everyone has an opinion about how I should live my life.Who I should love.When I should leave.What career I should pursue.Whether I should move.Whether I should have children.Whether I should undergo reconstruction.Whether I should get the tattoo, cut my hair, change my body, or stay exactly the same.The list never ends.Some opinions come from love. Some come from fear. Some come from people projecting the life they would choose onto yours.But here’s what I’ve learned:None of those people have to wake up in my body.None of them have to carry the weight of my decisions.None of them have to live with the consequences of my choices.I do.So I’ve stopped making decisions based on who they’ll make comfortable.This is your reminder that your life doesn’t require unanimous approval. It requires honesty with yourself.You are the one who has to live with your choices every single day. Make the ones that bring you peace, not the ones that earn you the least criticism.Your body.Your life.Your future.Choose accordingly. 🤍
