ICYMI: Last week, former Mayor of Detroit, Mike Duggan, dropped out of the race for Michigan Governor. The candidate list will fluctuate until it is confirmed in July for primary voting on August 4, 2026. For right now, EWVC is sharing those names that are still in the running for governor. We've listed some campaign websites, but we will update with the final candidate options closer to the primary vote.

These are not the only elections Michiganders should be focused on. Almost every locality, municipality and public office also have elections; local commissioners, local judges and attorneys, school boards, mayors, state legislators, state supreme court judges, state attorney general as well as *numerous* ballot measures and recalls. ["A political recall is the process by which citizens can remove elected officials from office before their term is completed." from Ballotpedia.com] Please check Ballotpedia.com for the detailed current status of statewide elections.

Prepare now, this year, elections will be fierce and contentious. Verify your voter registration status multiple times through November 3.

TONIGHT! 5/20, 6PM Stand with us in solidarity with Survivors Speak to question authorities at Huron Valley Women's Correctional Facility: Why are these human rights violations allowed to continue? Free Krystal Clark! Bring in third-party oversight to end the inhumane torture of inmates and staff!

TAKE ACTION! Contact the following officials to help save Krystal’s life and to demand the facility be held accountable for medical neglect.

1. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer: Grant Krystal Clark medical clemency, bring third-party contractors to inspect for mold, and allocate funding for medical aid.
2. U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell: Continue to use the Federal Prison Oversight Act to demand transparency and truth in all inspections.
3. State Rep. Jimmy Wilson Jr.: Ask Legislative Corrections Ombudsman Keith Barber to continue investigating toxic mold in the facility.
4. County Commissioner Annie Somerville: Release all files related to Krystal Clark and declare a health crisis in the facility.
5. Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia M. Dyer: Continue to encourage the investigation of potential criminal activity being committed by the prison and apply pressure nonstop to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Our communities are carrying so much right now. In these times, we need space to come together—free from scripts or expectations—to find healing, solidarity, and connection. Whether you’re grieving, recovering, supporting others, or simply stretched thin by the weight of it all, you are welcome. Let’s hold space for one another in real community, with honest prayer, open praise, and fellowship as we face these challenges together in Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
