Ohio is a 50 inch or under state so nowhere to play but private around here and it has rained for the last couple days.

I really thought I found just an couple old foundations.....

Then I found out there was an entire town out here.

On my way out to explore the Reymert-DeNoon mine and ovens.

I came across several old Stone foundation scattered throughout the area.

At first, I didn't think much of them. I figured they were probably housing or support buildings for the men working around the mine in the ovens.

Then I started digging into a history.

And that's where it really got interesting.

By 1890 Reymert was actually listed in the US census as 'Reymert Town".

Population 254 residents.

Think about that for a second.

If you've ever been out here, you know how remote this is even today.

Back then, it was a legitimate mine community sitting out in the middle of Mineral Mountain.

Historical accounts mentioned in assay office, boarding houses, a blacksmith shop ,stable and a Wells Fargo express station plus other infrastructure expect in a functioning little mining town.

But here's the part I can't make add up

I found about six obvious stone foundations, maybe eight or nine a couple were pretty questionable.

But that's nowhere close to enough structures for 254 people.

So where did everybody live?

There are definitely more areas around the ovens and farther into the canyon that I haven't explored yet.

It was simply too damn hot to spend too much time climbing around back there.

There's also another wrinkle in the story

Some historical information suggest this immediate settlement may have been connected to Denoon, Reymerts partner.

Known as the DeNoon mill settlement.

So the handful of foundations I found may only be one small piece of a much larger town site.

I'm going back when it cools down to check out the other remains and see if I can put heads or tails to where 254 people lived.

A few shots from the White tank area….

Right by the old caterpillar testing grounds.

This area has a ton of cool history and there’s not much that is OHV anymore.

I’m told that there were some really cool trails out here many of us will never see.

I’m told this section is to be close to us soon as well.

Darn shame.

The city of Buckeye seems to have a big section of the old trails.

They repurposed them when they developed Skyline recreation park.

Rendezvous at the Dons of Arizona.

The first full weekend in November starting on the sixth they’ll be a rendezvous over by the Dons of Arizona. That’s right up next to the superstition mountains.

I’m told the whole weekend will be filled with amazing things including a bunch of guest speakers on Saturday and I am also told that the Don’s will be doing the Peralta hike.

They haven’t done this hike in multiple decades.

Should be an absolutely amazing time follow along if you wanna join and I’ll be dropping more information as it gets closer.

Mineral Mountain is such an amazing piece of history.

And there's a whole lot more hiding around the sugar shack than just an old Stone cabin.

I had it into mineral Mountain to check out the shack, but the further I went, the more I kept finding.

Old mine working

Stacked rocks

Possible foundations

Multiple dams built through a big wash. And a spring box.

We still don't know is exactly when the sugar shack was built,

Who built it?

Or whether these old workings had another name before LULU TOO.

One thing is pretty clear

This wasn't just somebody throwing up a little cabin in the desert.

There was mining here, water was being controlled, and somebody put real work into this site

That's what makes it so damn interesting.
