The Apopka Chief and The Planter are weekly community newspapers, independently owned and family operated, which have served the greater Apopka area in Central Florida since 1923 and 1965 respectively. The Apopka Chief is available every Friday, and The Planter, every Thursday.

The Winn-Dixie grocery store in Errol Plaza is set to close in early March, according to a statement from parent company Southeastern Grocers.

“We can confirm the Winn-Dixie grocery store located at 1565 W. Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka will close in early March to convert to ALDI,” said Meredith Hurley, senior director of communications and community for Southeastern Grocers. “The adjacent Winn-Dixie Beer, Wine & Spirits store will remain open.”

John H. Bridges Community Center, as part of the Orange County Community Action Division, will donate 400 hams and side dishes in a drive-thru giveaway next week.

“Orange County Government and my office partner with the Second Harvest Food Bank to bring holiday cheer and a healthy meal for Apopka’s neediest families,” said District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore, who is serving as the giveaway sponsor.
