“I have never NOT had fun while filming a wedding”, says Eric Ash the owner and lead camera operator and video editor of Viva La Video llc. “I can honestly say that after 15 years experience in crashing weddings with a camera in my hand. None of my footage has ever made it on America’s Funniest Home Videos but trust me when I tell you there would be plenty of material to pull from.”
“I find it funny yet comforting to know I still get nervous and feel butterflies floating around before I arrive on location. Before my arrival I hope and pray I that I can somehow create something special and worthy for this wedding couple.”
“This career has taken me all across this great state of Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesotta, Illinois, Texas, California, and back to my Mother’s homeland in Germany to record a day that happens once in a lifetime. It also happens to be a day in which time moves in double time. Each wedding day flies by and leaves a happy couple wishing and praying for time to stand still. I know because almost every couple tells me at the reception. This is where the real value of wedding videography shines through. This couple has no clue what I’ve got in store for them when they finally get to watch their personalized movie snuggled up in their favorite chair or sofa. I try to visualize that moment before I start shooting and I think it really helps keep me grounded and logical in my approach.”

It makes people laugh as hard as they cry, and as the narrator for your story I am overjoyed to hear your reactions took you to that place. I can’t really explain how fun this career really is. I feel blessed to witness such emotion through my camera lens."
"If I need to I can get in close on the action so to feel like the hankerchief in the Groom’s pocket, but I can film in that space and limit the stress of my camera pointing in your direction. It's best when I can slip into the background and give you that space you deserve so to let you shine on your wedding day. I am 6'6 and already feel as though I am in everyone's way. But I do have the bird's eye and maybe a different perspective on what we are all looking at. That is one of God's gifts given to me."
"I try and focus on filming the eyes of the Bride and Groom, because they reveal such intense glances that I often blush or feel like I should look away from the viewfinder. I just point and set up and softly step away from the tripod. On your wedding day you try and let go of whatever fear or anxiety you harbor naturally from all the planning and emotions invested. When a couple really focuses on eachother and lean on eachother, they can stop and smell the roses and just breathe. Those are the moments I can appreciate, little gifts and small shiny boxes that open up experiencing deep emotion and love. So many great friends and collegues of mine in the wedding industry will agree, wedding days are as easy to gauge and determine as the weather in Wisconsin. Some groomsmen will forget his vest, a bridesmate will misplace her earrings, a Bride might hyperventilate, just give her some space and aqua please. You have to just roll with it."

"Each couple that hires us recognizes that these moments are rare and need preservation, which is cool because they want me to be there and part of the crew. If I can bottle up the sounds, smells,and feelings into something you can watch when you are 80 years old... that is very powerful to me. Nothing speaks to your heart as raw emotion and there really is only one way to relive your wedding day. This is a fun career and it provides a new bond with two people that I might never have met if in any other circumstance. I get to laugh and celebrate with joining families from small and large comunities. I try to capture something with heart, soul, and laughter. We wedding videographers are all trying to make things cinimatic, I really try and encourage other shooters to be as present as possible and always be about 30 minutes ahead of schedule at all times. Wedding moments don't wait for you to hit the record button. Just be eager to please your couples and extremely vigilant to get your shot. It makes it all worth it in the end.”

Viva La Video llc is based out of Appleton, WI. Eric Ash is the owner of Viva La Video llc and filmed his first wedding in 1999. He is a 2003 graduate of Madison Media Institute and also works in commercial production and digital media. He still grows his passion for wedding videography not only in his filming style but in the deciphering of various story lines that take place on any given wedding day.

"I really love to arrive on location and just stop and soak in the environment, I want to listen to the sounds and sights each wedding I find myself in. Obviously on a wedding day the emotions are going to be off the charts, I don't want my videocamera to be another set of eyes taking you out of your comfort zone. I never wish for the bride and groom to ever feel like they have to play up to the camera or be someone they are not. Being the center of attention all day and night is already enough to deal with, I like to pull back and use lenses that will get in close to the action without feeling like I am closing in on you. I want every bride to feel comfortable, I kind of slip into the background and go about my work and it produces very natural results."

"I love meeting new people and breaking the ice in a room. Sometimes it is absolutely necessary. My easy going personality helps me navigate my day. I feel as though my experience allows me a certain freedom to be vigilant yet at ease with the flow of the day. What I appreciate most after 15 years is the feedback I get from couples. Filming your wedding ties me to a couple and I do not take that blessing for granted. I get to witness the blending of families the start of so many loving foundations that families create. I also appreciate the strong connecting with other friends in the wedding business. There is so much talent in and around the Fox Cities when it comes to wedding services that I feel happy to play a small and part in all of it. I feel so much gratitude for the strong community of wedding DJ's, Photographers, Event Coordinators, and other wedding specialist pushing our name out there. We are blessed to allow word of mouth as our best advertisement. Facebook and Youtube have created an amazing platform for me to share our work globally, instantly."

When the people you love most are gushing about you it brings out joy, laughter, tears, and so many wonderful stories. I then mix those interviews into our HIGHLIGHT video, and an honest story emerges told through the starry eyes of your wedding party. I LOVE telling those stories because they mean so much from the family's perspective. To have a shooting style that visually brings you back in tha moment, that is something a photo simply cannot do.

I want each and every couple I work with to walk away feeling like their wedding video is loaded with wonderful memories and has a high replay value. Today's wedding videographers are taking advantage of so many new and wonderful filming tools. The footage we are collecting can be absolutely breath taking.
