Shooting Incident on Highway 79 Leads to Arrest

Sgt. Weaver with the Clarendon Police Department received a report of a vehicle being shot at on Highway 79 at approximately 11:47 PM Monday Night, just inside the Clarendon city limits. At the time of the call, the victim was actively following the suspect vehicle, identified as a semi truck.
Sgt. Weaver, along with Deputy Wolfe, responded to the incident and successfully conducted a traffic stop on the semi truck on Highway 49 near Henderson Corner. The driver of the semi truck was taken into custody without incident.
Chief Spencer, Deputy Beck, and Sheriff Neal made contact with the victims. During the inspection of the victim’s vehicle, officers observed a large bullet hole in the door. A bullet was also recovered from the door ledge.
After all statements were collected, Sgt. Weaver transported the suspect to St. Francis County, where the individual is being held pending a Rule 8 hearing.
Following the initial investigation, Chief Spencer, Deputy Beck, and Deputy Wolfe returned to the original scene on Highway 79. During that follow-up, Chief Spencer located a spent shell casing believed to be connected to the incident.
The Clarendon Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office for their assistance. This case highlights the strong cooperation between agencies working together to ensure the safety of the public. This is also another reason why Officers Police Highways, crime isn’t just confined to neighborhoods!
