El Rey provides private instruction to guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists, mandolin players, banjo players and even harmonica players, of all levels. The instructors are all active musicians in the area with years of experience performing. El Rey also helps younger students form their own bands and perform in front of large crowds at local music venues.
Operating as usual
Parents, check out the new Threshold Youth Program!
Sheltered in place with nothing to do? Now's the perfect time to dust off that instrument and hone your chops. Our experienced instructors are available for online lessons for guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, voice, and all levels of music theory and improv. Shoot us a message to take advantage of our Online Special, available until April 7th!
El Rey Music Center will be conducting classes online from 3/16-3/21. No one in the El Rey community is ill, and yes, we are being "overly cautious," but we are all safer if we do this together.
Students, remember: this is the perfect time to "hit the shed" and connect with your instrument! Foregoing social time is often a big part of getting really good at something, and as musicians we've all gone through years where our gigs/jam sessions were our ONLY social outlet. So pick an album to learn by ear. Pick a scale or technique to really master. Practice changing your strings, setting your action and your intonation. Rock on!
El Rey students and families! To help us stay healthy this season:
-All piano students must thoroughly wash hands before using El Rey keyboards. (All other students are encouraged to wash their hands as they enter lessons as well!)
-Keyboards and common surfaces are sanitized daily with rubbing alcohol, which is available to instructors for additional use as needed.
-Students who are visibly ill (coughing, sneezing, complaining of fever) should stay home, or will be sent home by their instructor. Please do not risk your health or that of your instructors/fellow students!
Let's continue to follow common sense about not spreading germs, so we can keep the music going!
Set list is in! Get your heinies over to Durty Nellie’s next Sunday Nov. 17th to see what our student bands have been working on, and enjoy a great afternoon of raffle prizes, drinks, and food! #localmusic

Sending our love to Susan Manglaris today as we mourn the passing of her brother and our friend, Ed. Ed was a part of countless El Rey shows, and in addition to being a great player and a music encyclopedia, he also had a huge heart. RIP
Many thanks to Six on Friday, The Difference, Breaking Ice, and Authentic Pines for giving us a great show at St. Zach's Augustfest yesterday! We've got the best, most committed group of students, families and teachers at El Rey, and their dedication keeps this train rolling. Cheers to all!
We're playing this tune with a full band at our Student Showcase at Durty Nellie's on September 10, but we figured it'd be fun to give it a go acoustically. We didn't mess up "too much."

Six on Friday
A big "Cheers" to our students in Chapter One, Breaking Ice, and Six on Friday for their dedication, positivity and ever-increasing musicianship! These guys and gals gave great performances today at 210 Restaurant & Live Music Lounge and Durty Nellie's which benefitted the American Cancer Society and breastcancer.org. Keep doin' what you're doin'!
