EFCC is trending because in "not so" breaking news, fugitíve Yahaya Bello has finally reported to the commission, after 5 months since he was declared wanted in April 2024
The former Kogi governor was facing 19 charges of corrúption, emb£zzlement to the tune of ₦80.2billion+
On the 17th of April, EFCC stormed his Abuja home to arrést him for an alleged N84bn state fràud. Kogi IGP allegedly sent officers to fíght them off.
Bello then begged Tinubu for help.
Later, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, visited and smúggled the White Lion out. The next day 18th, EFCC declared him wànted.
On the 20th, the female officer assigned to him was àrrested over allegations that she aided in letting him evade arrést. Then, multiple source reported that, Bello was plótting to flee to Morocco.
On 23rd of April, EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede revealed that, there are several allegations against Yahaya Bello, including the one where he paid his children school fees in advance till 2034 in USD, total of $845,000. Which he withdrew from state account.
EFCC ordered the American International School to return the money, they offered to refund only $760,000 to save themselves from charges of conspíracy in money laúndering.
On that day, EFCC's Ola Olukoyede swore that if he doesn't arrést Yahaya Bello, he will resign.
On 2nd May, Sahara Reported that Mr. White Lion is planning to bríbe judges with thousands of cash dollars.
6th June, He was supposed to be arraigned in court for his crim£s. But he didn't appear in court. Which implied that there is a huge possibility that EFCC were yet to find him.
EFCC later said they should have arrésted him since, but he's under the protection of some stróng men in the system. Nigerians will call this "power pass power"
So, the case was adjourned till June 27th due to 'miscommunication' between the counsel.
21st June, PDP claimed he was híding in Kogi government house. Possibly with Ododo who succeeded him as Kogi Governor.
8th July, EFCC al£rted International Police in Morocco, Tunisia, Sudan, Egypt, Libya and Algeria to monitor fugitíve, Yahaya Bello.
Apparently, Yahaya Bello had tried to escàpe to Morocco but faíled. He fail£d to appear twice in court in June, expected to appear on the 17th July. Of course he didn't.
So, EFCC anticipated a potential japa, after the agency received intel that Mr Bello is plótting an escàpe to North Africa again.
On 8th July, the fugitíve wrote an application seeking to transfer his court case from Abuja to Kogi State. It was rejected for lacking basis.
14th July, TheCable reported that Yahaya Bello kept under "protective custody" of Kogi State Government, despite EFCC R£d Notice.
17th July, as expected he didn't appear.
Today, 18th September 2024, Bello has finally reported to EFCC, after using five months to consult his family, lawyers and political allies (according to him).
Bello is facing a 19-count charge of alleged money làundering, br£ach of trust, and misàppropriation of public funds.
However, Nigerians believe the case has tarried for too long, which could imply that the script has been finalized. Further inf£rring that, Bello may walk free, based on prec£dence set by the Nigerian authorities.
