When I look back at my career, it isnāt hugely surprising where I ended up in my corporate job, but my side business is a whole other story.
My first time as an entrepreneur was selling gel pen tattoos on the play ground, then later I made handmade cards. I really enjoyed making cards.
I loved writing too. Especially, creative writing.
But, I loved public speaking the most. Itās actually why I picked Public Relations as my major, but honestly PR is mostly all writing so I obviously had no clue what public relations really meant š
I worked a few retail jobs growing up, then spent most of my late teens and 20s as a server in my home town then later at Texas Roadhouse.
At junior college, I also did a semester on the newspaper. One of the stories I wrote was about a woman I had a class with that had challenges with addiction. The story covered how it impacted her family and how she was able to get help and heal.
My favorite teacher at TJC was my English professor, and I always got Aās on my papers too!
I later went to UT Austin, but the difference from a small city like Tyler to a big city like Austin post breakup was over stimulating to say the least.
It wasnāt long before I was back home and started working at the local radio station. I really loved working with small businesses and getting to create creative radio campaigns for them and write their radio scripts too.
But I just knew that I needed a job that was more innovative and would help me grow. Thatās one thing about me, I donāt like stay stagnant. I like to grow. While we all have setbacks in live and sometimes just naturally go backwards, I like to try to stay focused on growing and going up!
Thatās why I needed something to challenge me more and I found my corporate job in Fort Worth about 10 years ago.
A few years into being in this area, I started volunteering in the LGBTQIA+ community and getting involved in non-profits that focused on safe s*x practices and education. I truly loved it and felt at home.
It was the first time I felt like I could truly be me and it was acceptable and encouraged.
Now in the midst of all those years, I did try out several direct sales gigs but I wasnāt super passionate about them, and I didnāt last longā¦ šš¤Ŗ
However, in 2021, I was asked to checkout Pure Romance and at that time I had just closed on my house. I had always thought it would be amazing to create a space for women where they could feel they free to of judgement to own their s*xuality and be encouraged to be themselves.
And Pure Romance was and is doing just that.
It was a no brained for me. Iām so glad I decided to go all in! I thought I would just be empowering others but I have learned SO much and itās truly empowered me too!
Did you end up where you thought youād be?
