Y’ALL… I’m STILL on this ’80s challenge! 😂😂

Apparently if I had been grown in the ’80s, THIS would’ve been me.

And this picture has me thinking about my mama because women back then really woke up looking like this EVERY DAY. 😂

Hair laid.
Makeup done.
Big earrings.
Blazer pressed.

Just to run to the store. 😂❤️

But since I’ve had so many new people following me lately, let me reintroduce myself.

I’m Dr. Charliette Cummings.

And right now, I’m working on some of the biggest and most meaningful projects of my life.

My mom passed away last year from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Losing her changed me.

But it also gave me an entirely different perspective on what I wanted the next chapter of my life to look like.

💜 I’m building the Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation here in Dallas to help families access affordable memory care and caregiver support.

Our first planned memory care home will be in Pleasant Grove the neighborhood I grew up in projected to open Summer 2027.

We’re also projecting 22+ quality jobs right there in the community.

Because families shouldn’t have to choose between quality care and what they can afford.

📱 I’m also building a national dementia and Alzheimer’s support platform to help families find resources, connect with organizations and professionals, build community, and have a constant support system throughout the journey.

I know firsthand how lonely caregiving can feel.

I want families to know:

You do not have to figure this out by yourself.

💻 And through Clanet Strategic Consulting, we work with government entities and organizations in technology, AI, workforce development, training, business analysis, QA, and software testing.

After 20+ years in technology, I decided to take everything I learned working for other organizations and start using those skills to build my own.

And YES we’re hiring and building a network of remote professionals across the U.S.

But here’s the part that connects ALL of it:

My goal is to create as many opportunities for people as I possibly can.

Jobs.

Resources.

Connections.

Education.

Access.

A chance for somebody else to walk through a door they didn’t know was available to them.

I came from Pleasant Grove.

I know what it means to come from a community where people have talent, intelligence, and ambition but may not always have access.

So if I can build something that creates that access for somebody else?

That’s success to me.

Not too bad for a girl from the hood… lol. 😂🙌🏾❤️

I was recently honored to be a guest on The Jeff Crilley Show, where I discussed the Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation and our mission to build affordable, neighborhood-based memory care homes and respite services in Dallas.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Crilley of The Jeff Crilley Show. Never thought a little Black girl from Pleasant Grove would get an opportunity like this.

This work is deeply personal. In honor of my mother, Clara D. Young, we are building a dignity-first vision for memory care, one that helps keep families close to home, connected to their communities, and supported through every step of the journey.

I am manifesting my future and making my reality as clear as the vision that came to me, the vision of Clara’s House and memory care that keeps families close to home. 💜

Dallas, I’m building more than a development, I’m building opportunity, dignity, and hope. 💜✨

Through the Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation, I’m planning to hire 22+ people for the future Clara’s House Pleasant Grove development, creating healthcare and caregiving opportunities while serving families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

I founded this work in honor of my mother, Clara D. Young. This dignity-first vision is rooted in Dallas and focused on strengthening our community through compassionate care and meaningful jobs.

No family should have to move out of their neighborhood to receive care, like my parents did.

For everyone new here, I’m Charliette Cummings: founder and builder of the Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation.

I’m creating Clara’s House in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, in honor of my mother, Clara D. Young. Our vision is to support families affected by Alzheimer’s, dementia, and the challenges of caregiving through compassionate, dignified care while creating future jobs and meaningful community opportunities. Through the foundation, we’re bringing 21+ healthcare jobs to Dallas.

Dignity is where care begins.

Through my consulting firm, Clanet Strategic Consulting, I’m launching an app this month to support caregivers as they navigate dementia care. The timing is especially meaningful during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, because families deserve clearer guidance, connection, and support.

Clanet Strategic Consulting will also be hiring for workforce development and technology consulting opportunities serving government organizations. If you’re interested in remote work or want to be part of work that supports caregivers and strengthens communities, connect with me.

A woman receives difficult news about her mother’s dementia progression. Her fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty is in her face: the struggle families face when searching for dementia and Alzheimer’s care is real.

I can definitely relate to the woman in this video. I went through the same emotions and feelings she did trying to navigate care for my mom before she passed away last year.

After the appointment, she searches for help online and discovers the Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation and the vision for Clara’s House Pleasant Grove.

Clara’s House is being created as a more caring place to come home to: rooted in dignity, support, and community. It represents a promise that families deserve compassion, guidance, and a place where their loved ones are treated with respect.

A diagnosis can leave families feeling lost, but no family should have to navigate this journey alone. Sometimes hope begins with finding one place to start.

A new chapter in Clara’s legacy is here. 💜

The Clara D. Young Legacy Foundation website is now live, and we’re proud to share the vision for Clara’s House Pleasant Grove: a future rooted in dignity, compassion, and community.

Our vision is to create affordable, dignity-first memory care, caregiver respite, education, and meaningful support for families in Dallas and beyond.

The concept images and facility shown represent a planned future vision. Clara’s House Pleasant Grove is scheduled to open in June 2027, serving as a place where families can find care, connection, and relief when they need it most.

This mission is deeply personal. It honors my mother, Clara D. Young, while building a better future for families navigating Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other forms of memory loss.

Dignity is where care begins.

This 3-year-old Black girl had no idea that one day, her greatest heartbreak would become her God-given assignment. 💜

I grew up in the hood of Pleasant Grove in Southeast Dallas, in a society that was not always welcoming to a young Black girl like me. At that age, I could never have imagined where life and God would eventually lead me.

I never imagined that I would lose my maternal grandmother to dementia.

I never imagined that I would lose my mother to Alzheimer’s disease in 2025.

All the women on my mother’s side of the family who loved me, supported me, and helped guide me have now passed away. Although their physical presence is gone, their love, wisdom, strength, and prayers continue to live through me.

I never thought my grief would become the seed of a greater purpose.

After more than 20 years working in technology across the healthcare and government sectors, I am now developing an app in honor of my mother to help families navigate dementia and Alzheimer’s with greater dignity, connection, and support.

I am also challenging the status quo by working to develop affordable memory care homes in Dallas, beginning in the same Pleasant Grove community that helped shape me. These homes will be designed to support low-income families who are too often overlooked and priced out of the traditional memory care system.

My 20-year career prepared me for this assignment, even when doors were closed and I could not understand why. Looking back, I can see that every experience, disappointment, and closed door was not the end of my story.

God was redirecting me.
God was developing me.
God was preparing me.

A series of dreams given to me by God helped lead me to this purpose.

As we begin World Alzheimer’s Month, I want to encourage people to move beyond awareness and get behind real solutions. Families need affordable care, trusted resources, supportive technology, and communities where they do not have to navigate this heartbreaking disease alone.

That little 3-year-old girl from Pleasant Grove could not see the road ahead, but God could.

Where you come from does not disqualify you from where God is calling you. A closed door does not mean your purpose has been canceled.

Every day you wake up is another opportunity to discover your true purpose, answer your calling, and use everything you have survived to help someone else.

This is bigger than an app.
This is bigger than a memory care home.
This is the continuation of the legacy of the women who poured into me.
This is a movement, and we are just getting started.
