DFW Severe Weather Online resource and forum for Dallas/Fort Worth severe weather events. My love of weather started as a young boy with my father.

Weather events in Texas have always fascinated me and sharing my observations with my friends and family brings me great joy. I hope that to continue the tradition started with my father through social media. Please feel free to message me with severe weather questions. 7/15/17 Saturday 4pm.....5:55pm...Updates in comment section, we currently have no rain/TS activity in the DFW Metroplex or North Tx....
***adjusting forecast back to the less than 20% chance of TS's this afternoon/evening***
***rain/TS's are possible after midnight, into the early morning hours***

The weakened TS complex that moved thru this morning ended up giving us some sinking air behind it, so therefore we've had no development. A few very isolated TS's are possible from now thru this evening, w/ a better chance & coverage of TS's after midnight. We are currently seeing TS activity underway in west/sw Oklahoma in associated with a little disturbance.
Look for a new update later tonight, w/ any needed updates in the comment section of this thread.

***we had about a 10 to 20% coverage of non severe TS yesterday as forecast, but chances are going up today***
***a weakening overnight complex/MCS has made it into our area, & will leave an outflows boundary across our are, so I'm increasing the rain coverage for this afternoon to around 40%, w/ another MCS making a run at our area on Sunday mornings***
***severe threat will be low, wind gust to 50, small hail, &very heavy rainfall w/ the slow moving TS's***

A few showers/non severe TS will be around thru about 11am, w/ more activity getting underway by about 2pm. Look for a new update around noon.

***forecast for this week has been on track***
***high pressure/summer time ridge has moved overhead this week as forecast, but is now shifting slightly back to the west, putting us on the eastern edge w/ a nw flow***
***very low/isolated non severe TS's possible thru Sunday, less than 20% coverage***
***a few spots will hit 100 today, mid 90's for the weekend***

The summer time ridge moved overhead this week as forecast, but has now shifted a bit to the west, & giving us a little nw flow. But unlike last week, we'll not see any disturbances running along the eastern periphery of the ridge. So for the next few days, we'll see about a 10 to 20% coverage of isolated non severe TS's.

***edit 12:25pm...I'm raising our coverage of rain from 30% to 40%, to around 80%, based on current trends***
***weekend forecast has been right on target***
***overnight complex/MCS to our nw is arriving now, but weakened & scattered***
***more scattered TS's this afternoon, w/ some significant impacts for those that get under a cell, threats will once again be dangerous lightning, wind gust to 60, & very heavy rain, w/ isolated flooding issues from any cell that goes severe***
***we had several SEVERE TS WARNINGS, & FLOOD ADVISORIES yesterday, & will be the case again today. So moderate to high impacts for some, & no rain or impacts for others***

Well, yesterday we had a little higher coverage of rain, as predicted. We ended up w/ about a 40% coverage. Currently, we have what was an MCS moving into our from the nw, but this should almost completely die off over the next hour, but will leave a large outflow/cold pool over DFW, so again this afternoon, around 2pm, we'll see TS activity get underway, w/ cell moving very slowly to the south/sw, they will build up, then collapse & send out a gust front, much like the last 3 days. And that gust front/outflow will fire off new cells. We also have another weak disturbance & weak front that'll aid in the TS development, as well as the outflow boundaries.Temps remain hot today, in the mid to upper 90's, & very humid, w/ high pressure taking over by tomorrow, as forecast.

***forecast for today was on track, activity began around 2pm, a few cells became severe, & coverage was a little higher today, we've had about a 30% to 40% coverage***
***cell in central Tarrant county is the strongest cell of today, cell has gone SEVERE, possibly producing hail to quarter size, & wind gust to 60mph as it drifts south at about 5mph***
***TS ending by sunset, w/ a repeat tomorrow***

TS activity in the area began around 2pm, as predicted, w/ a few cells becoming marginally severe, w/ minor to significant impacts for those that got under a cell. We've seen numerous lightning strikes, heavy rain, up to 2.5 inches in a few spots, w/ minor street flooding, & wind gust to 60mph. It was interesting watching the outflow/gust front push across the area & fire off new cells.

***overnight MCS fell apart north of the Red River, but outflows are lying all across our area, plus a weak cool front is along the Red River & slowly moving to the sw, & a weak disturbance is sitting in nw Tx***
***look for a cumulus filed to begin developing at any time, w/ scattered mostly non severe TS's to begin forming by about 2pm***
***coverage of rain today looks to be about 30 to 40%***
***severe threat remains low, w/ the main hazards from any cell that forms being dangerous lightning, down burst winds to 50mph, & brief heavy rain, w/ isolated minor flooding issues***

The MCS overnight fell apart, but has sent it's remnant outflow into our northern counties, w/ numerous boundaries across the area from yesterdays convection, a weak cool front sliding in from the ne, & a weak disturbance near Wichita Falls. So by about 2pm, scattered TS's will begin to develop, & much like the last few afternoons, the cells will build up, rain out/collapse & send out new outflows that could fire off new cells. Storm motion today will be very slowly to the west/sw.
And I'm still forecasting for the summer time ridge to move overhead starting Monday, leading to an extended period of hot/dry weather, thru next week & beyond.

***a cluster/MCS associated w/ a little disturbance is currently entering northwest Oklahoma, weakening as it arrives sometime after 8am***

In my forecast I mentioned a possible MCS for Saturday/Sunday mornings, & one has formed, & while it will arrive after about 8pm, it'll likely be only showers, a maybe a few weak TS's, & will leave numerous outflows in the area. So look for possible showers early in the morning, followed by scattered TS's firing agian around peak heating, after 2pm.

***high pressure slowly beginning to push in from the west/sw, but we still sit on the outer edge of the ridge, so scattered to isolated showers/TS's will be possible again this afternoon thru the weekend. And any overnight TS complexes should be east/ne of our area, but w/ the nw flow still hanging on, I'll monitor the low chance for an MCS in our area Saturday/Sunday mornings***

Our rare nw flow, & a stalled out front that's been sitting up in Oklahoma since last Friday is slowly coming to an end. By Monday, the summer time ridge should be sitting in west Tx, & ending our nw flow, & rain chances. High temps next week will be in the upper 90's to around 100, w/ light winds & possible HEAT ADVISORIES. Much like the last few afternoons, TS's will build up during peak heating hours, then collapse & send out outflows that will fire off new cells. So enjoy the next few days, as we finally get into the full summer time pattern that I had forecast to build over head last week. But a missed forecast in July that leads to rain chances is ok w/ me.

As anticipated, the activity would be a little more intense w/ it occurring during peak heating hours. The main threat as mentioned earlier would be heavy rain w/ minor street flooding due to the slow movement of the activity. We had the initial cell in Tarrant county send out numerous outflows that fired off new cells. The activity will end around midnight & I do not anticipate another late night/early morning rain event.
