We often get asked what our responsibilities on the farm are. It varies A LOT between the 3 of us! Evelyn’s Check fresh cows 3x per week. Treat cows. Dry off cows 1xweek. Clean cow water tubs 2-3xweek. Watch maternity pen. Check for cow’s in close up dry that are about to calve, and move them to maternity pen if need be. Attend farm meetings on dairy side of things. Feed new calves. Help create farm protocols. Claudia Mowing hay. Getting the ground ready to plant. Learning how to plant. Any jobs that need to be filled in a tractor cab springsummer. Helping out with any shop products when home from college. Jojo Feed calves every night. On-call for any new babies that need to be fed. Transporting milk taxi. Making sure milk taxi is ready for next feeding. Cleaning, lots of cleaning. Moving weaned calves. Cleaning out calf barn. In the summer and fall we are all preparing for our busy pumpkin season. Did you know that dairy cows drink a bathtub of water everyday That is about 35 gallons everyday! And I think drinking one gallon of water is hard. Water is essential for milk production. With milk being about 87% water, it is important that our cows are drinking a lot of it. To ensure they have fresh water ALWAYS, we have these tubs. As the cows drink from it, the water automatically fills back up. We have 3pen. I am in charge of cleaning these out and you wouldn’t believe the amount of back wash these cows put in their water 😳
