The Holidays at Village at Leesburg

🎄It's the most wonderful time of the year at Village at Leesburg. We had a blast with our families looking at all of the holiday lights, sipping wine and hot chocolate as we strolled. We shopped for some last minute gifts, ate some yummy dinner, sat by the firepit and even took a carriage ride. There was something for all of us.

Historic Loudoun: Ball's Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery

Historic Loudoun: Ball's Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery On October 21, 1861, shortly after the Union Army's rout at the First Battle of Bull Run, the Union forces crossed the Potomac River just 2 miles NE of Leesburg. After a long firefight, the Federal line was broken and the Union troops were pushed down the difficult terrain and onto the river bank. An evacuation was impossible because there were too few boats. 223 Union troops were killed and eventually 553 Union troops were captured. 👉🏻Fun tip: Ball's Bluff offers 223 acres, 7 miles of marked trails, including a 1 mile loop to the Bluff Overlook and a 2.1 mile trail along the Potomac Riverbank.

Historic Loudoun: White's Ferry on the Potomac

White's Ferry (ca. 1786) is the last operational ferry on the Potomac. At one time, there were as many as 100 ferries. After the Civil War, former Conferderate Officer Elijah V. White purchased it and named the boat after his former Commander, General Jubal Anderson Early. The ferry boat still bears the same name today. 👉🏻Fun tip: Take the Ferry into Maryland and hike Sugarloaf Mountain (not really a mountain). On the way back, stop by Rocky Point Creamery for an icecream.

Our Story

JC Silvey, Jessie Peterson and Ken DuPuis are the creators behind Inside Loudoun. Each living and working in Loudoun County, they had a desire to bring a unique and fun perspective on Eats, Drinks, People and Places in Loudoun to the community.

JC runs the Real Estate firm Silvey Residential and focuses on representing both Buyers and Sellers in their real estate transactions. He is also a residential appraiser having completed over 3000 residential property valuations in Northern Virginia. A retired Navy pilot, and having spent 8 years on active duty flying combat missions over Somalia, Bosnia and Iraq, JC is now enjoying a quieter life in Loudoun. JC lives in Leesburg with his wife Vianne and 4 children.

Jessie is an avid freelance photographer, outdoor enthusiast, snow boardist, and a marketing and social media specialist. She has lived all over the East Coast and after 6 years as head of marketing for Baltimore Magazine, she is now happily settled here and loving life in Loudoun. Given that she is a consumate explorer, the opportunity to create for Inside Loudoun and to vigorously share her affection for this county was a no brainer. She lives in Leesburg with her husband Damon and their 3 children.

Ken heads up both Modern Filmworks and Digital Spoon right here in Loudoun, focusing on helping brands and businesses grow through video content and digital marketing. After spending the bulk of his filmmaking years in Los Angeles, and tired of the rat race called L.A., he picked up and moved to rural Virginia for a change of pace. He thought he would “try it out” for a year....that was 17 years ago. Ken has three grown children and currently resides in Purcellville. He loves the outdoors and spends as much time as possible on his boat on the Chesapeake Bay.

My name is Bill Incatasciato, and I am the admin for my page “Loudoun Christmas Lights,” My family and I love Christmas Lights and enjoy driving around the area to see the wonderful displays that other people set up. Unfortunately, I could never find a reliable listing of Christmas Light displays in Loudoun County, so I decided to create a comprehensive list of large and creative displays three years ago. I wanted to help other people find local Christmas displays in Loudoun County and to provide a platform for those who do large and/or cool displays to show them off to others. This page is intended for people in Loudoun County (and maybe really close by) to post their homes so that others may find them and appreciate the cheer they have created on their properties. This is the third year that I have been doing this, and hope that it continues to grow and become a valuable resource for our community. I ask that you help in one or all of the following ways: • Like/follow and share my page with others. • Send me photos and locations of Christmas light displays so I can post onto the page. It doesn’t have to be just your house. I do believe we should share the joy that others create. • Visit the displays and enjoy the effort that was put into them. When posting a picture, please include an address, hours, (if applicable), any restrictions/limitations (i.e. no head lights, don't block driveways, accepting donations, etc…,) and any other commentary. Please note, this a family friendly site, and I will review each submission prior to posting. Thanks for helping light up Loudoun County for the holidays! https://www.facebook.com/LoudounChristmasLights/

I know Inside Loudoun knows FOOD and other things in the community. What about gospel choirs??? Where would I find a really good gospel choir?
Well it certainly has been a hot summer night tonight. Went down town to dine at Cocina on Market. Seems there is a music event at Tally-Ho so the lot was full. Know the town I knew there would be available space at the Liberty Street Lot. I set a brisk pass for Amber and I to make it down to Market Street in record time to get out of the heat. Normally we would have taken our time and visited a few favorites down on King Street. Maybe next time Sunflower Shack and Brick and Mortar. Arriving at Cocina on Market we found it crowded. Good for them. The young hostess this evening greeted us in short order and let us know a table was opening shortly. True to her word in short order she came back to take us to our table. Just then Trevor came by and stopped to greet us personally. I can not tell you what a joy it is to be welcomed time and time again to a place you enjoy. This is not a show mind you. The staff and management honestly care about what they do her and are grateful for return guest. Being busy Trevor moved on but not before asking if we wanted our usual drinks. Victoria Lager for myself and a bottled lime drink Amber enjoys and I can never remember its name. In short order Drew came by to welcome us and asked if we were prepared to order. We ordered the Crispy Potato dish to start. Followed by a Fried Chicken Taco for Amber and a Vegetable Taco, which the name escapes me. For me the Beef Tongue Taco, the Octopus and Chariso Taco. The Crispy Potato's arrived and they were excellent as always. Mixed Potato's in a Mole Sauce. The sweet potato's were just that, super sweet. Playing well with the mole. The other potato's were equally delicious. I simply have a fondness for the sweet potato. Next came the tacos. Ambers favorite is the Fried Chicken Taco and tonight it did not fall short. She also enjoyed the nameless taco, my fault. I enjoyed all three of my choices. The winner tonight, however, would be the Beef Tongue Taco. WOW. It was so wonderful I had one more and another Victoria for my dessert. The desserts all sounded wonderful tonight but my best girl was thinking something with caramel so she passed. I have several folks I would like to thank for tonight's night out. Thank you to the gracious folks at Inside Loudoun and the wonderful chef and staff at Cocina on Market. Last months contest with Inside Loudoun was to write about a night out on Leesburg and I was lucky enough to be one of the five chosen as winners for that particular contest. Thank you to everyone involved. You all make it quite easy to promote Downtown Leesburg and wonderful venues such as Cocina on Market. Jessie Peterson, JC Silvey, Trevor and Drew, Amber and I would like to thank you once again for a wonderful, although hot, night out on our town. Grace and peace to you one and all. Look forward to see you all around town. Sincerely, Richard and Amber Fleeman
