Nearly one year after Helene struck, writers and artists donated all the profits (so far) from our book Stronger than the Storm: Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. Together we decided to give to MANNA FoodBank, who will use our gift to provide 30,000 meals to neighbors.

The book has also helped the local economy during a time when the storm tanked tourism (temporarily): It's added profits of nearly $20,000 to local stores who sell our book.

Best of all, the heartfelt essays, poems, and artwork in the book have helped people heal. Since the book was published in February, we've traveled across western North Carolina to do a dozen or so book readings, creating a safe space to talk about our shared trauma. Countless hugs!

We're proud to announce the launch of our new book, Stronger Than The Storm: Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. It's a collection of original essays, poems, and full-color artwork about the September 2024 storm that caused significant damage in our area.

To start to process the devastation, more than two dozen of the region’s finest writers and artists turned to their craft in the first few weeks after the storm. They’ve distilled emotions and events that are far too big to convey in photos or videos, and have captured the sense of selfless community spirit that has now enveloped our mountain towns.
