The is 30 years old this year! In response, they’ve organized a 30 Climbs Challenge. I have decided on a lofty goal of attempting 30 inspiring climbs with inspiring people. Mount Olympus’ snow, glacier, and rock climb with Peter, Chris, Chris, and Alan fit the bill for one of the 30! Note the headlamps of other parties in the moon photo. What a mountain!

The rare pillar on P2 of Sam’s! Hope folks are getting out to enjoy some of the ice climbs formed in this cold snap. Many are outlined in Southern Pisgah Rock and Ice. Common routes are largely in great shape, and many more ‘newly discovered’ or ‘rediscovered’ lines like this one are being celebrated through out the region. Let’s hope this week doesn’t melt it all.

Excited to announce the release of New WNC Boulders, a guide to several areas opened in the last few years by the Carolina Climbers Coalition. Huge thanks to the hundreds of volunteer stewards, land access supporters, and CCC supporters that helped make these areas happen. All book proceeds will be donated back to the CCC. A few weeks ago Dan and I intentionally climbed at least one problem on all of Weaver Knob’s 27 boulders. It was a great way to explore the forest, assess our trail building, and enjoy the rock. Big thanks to and for the access work there!

Sampling some quality new boulders at McKinney Gap, and land owners Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land have worked together to build a parking lot and upcoming trail system to access these boulders. Get on out there! V0-V8 so far. Roughly 100 problems.

Ground Up was honored to be a part of the guide book creation process. Note: Ground Up is not distributing these books but Breaks Park and CACC are.
