REC213 REC Producitons is here to meet the needs of any video and theater project. Teaching artist/actor/filmmaker and most importantly: Jack of all trades!

Richard Calvache is a Queens’s native. He considers himself a storyteller first and foremost. It is through his myriad artistic endeavors as an actor, dancer, and filmmaker that his talent for weaving a tapestry of tales shines. Richard's artistic career began as an actor and a dancer when he was awarded a Summer Scholarship to the Alvin Ailey Dance School. In 1995, he founded Urban Youth Theater at the Abron's Art Center at Henry Street Settlement. Richard's film career began in 2001, when he collaborated with former National Geographic producer, Charles Friedman. Together, they traveled the United States shooting educational and college recruitment videos. When Richard returned to New York, he became Executive Assistant for Daniel Catanach through DLex Productions. He went on to become a key component in the reimagining of the dance department at Abron's Art Center at Henry Street Settlement. He also worked as technical director for the Urban Ballet Theater dance company. In 2003, Richard established his production company, REC Productions (formerly named KRec Productions). Through REC Productions some of his original work found viral life or life in the film festival circuit. He created the shortfilms: "Second Position" and "In Motion," and the webseries: "Walt Disney World Vacation 2006;" and documentaries for various programs, including CASA and Centre Stage, which were successfully used in grant applications. Mr. Calvache can be found in the 5 Boroughs working as a teacher and mentor, offering instruction in theatre and film; at FAO Schwarz, where, as the famed Toy Soldier, he has been featured in numerous charity and television events.

SuperYou FUNdation

New video of the SuperYou FUNdation is up.

Please like and share!

The Crisis/De-Escalation Manager of the Department of Education in NYC , the Principal of PS 268, and Founder and CVO of the SuperYou FUNdation, Lourds Lane, discuss how two elementary students completely transformed their behaviors as a result of the SuperYouFUN learning . The class was taught by Edison High School Students who spent a semester learning how to teach the "superhero" curriculum.

Data has shown that the SuperYou FUndation curriculum makes an instant impact on the most hard to reach students. In this class, an essentially non-verbal child was the first to stand up excitedly in front of the class and join the line of high school student mentors to share his superhero name, his superpowers, and how he's going to change the world.

In this same class, there was another boy who has immense behavioral problems. He threw chairs. He bullied the other students. He would tantrum loudly. Because of the disruption he causes in class, he had his own paraprofessional assigned specifically him.

One of the exercises in SuperYou class is for students to call out positive character traits about one other. This helps students decide on their own positive character trait "superpower.” When the high school student mentors asked the class to name the positive character traits about this boy, he didn't want to hear what the class would say about him. He immediately cut off the question with an angry response -- "I'm Evil!" But the energy of the room was so heightened with positivity that the rest of the students just ignored the boy and shouted out what they saw in him... he was smart... and funny... and even kind. Suddenly, the boy softened.

One day later, the Crisis/De-Escalation Manager from the Department of Education in NYC, revealed to us that this same boy is now suddenly taking out the garbage during lunch break and choosing to be helpful to the class for the very first time. AND to top it all off, his fellow classmates instinctively all wrote his name down on their SuperYou star certificates and gave it to this boy to acknowledge him as a superhero for his helpful behavior.

If you want to stop bullying, get to the core of the issue. Just empower the child.
