Vermont DMV Screens 190 Trucks in Hartford Enforcement Detail — 65 Violations Found, 15 Vehicles and Drivers Placed Out of Service, Multiple Overweight Violations

HARTFORD, VERMONT — Vermont DMV enforcement officers conducted a commercial vehicle inspection detail in Hartford, screening more than 190 trucks and placing 15 vehicles and drivers out of service for immediate safety risks.

The detail produced the following results:

• 190+ Trucks Screened
• 65 Vehicle and Driver Violations Identified
• 15 Vehicles and Drivers Placed Out of Service
• 8 Portable Weigh Checks Conducted
• Multiple Overweight Violations Enforced

Officials emphasized that the goal of the operation was safety, not citations. "These enforcement efforts are not about citations, they are about keeping unsafe vehicles off the road and ensuring drivers are operating within state and federal safety regulations," Vermont DMV said. "Out-of-service violations are issued when a vehicle or driver poses an immediate safety risk and cannot continue operating until the issue is corrected."

The agency thanked compliant drivers for their cooperation. "We appreciate the cooperation from drivers who are doing things right and trying their best to stay compliant. Operations like this help reduce crashes, protect infrastructure, and keep all road users safe."

FHP Releases Video of Black Mustang Driver Who Fled Through Grass After Flipping Semi Across All I-75 Lanes — Suspect Described as Stocky Male in Gray Hoodie, Still at Large

MANATEE COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida Highway Patrol has released dashcam video of the fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 75 in Manatee County that killed a semi-truck driver Monday morning, as troopers intensify their search for the driver of a black Ford Mustang who fled the scene after triggering a chain reaction crash that flipped a tractor-trailer across all lanes of the highway.

The video shows the Mustang making multiple unsignaled lane changes before abruptly cutting into the center lane occupied by a Chevy Trailblazer. The front right of the Mustang struck the front left of the Chevy, sending it into the rightmost lane where it struck the cab of the tractor-trailer on the driver's side door. The tractor-trailer veered left across all interstate lanes and flipped partially upside down in front of the Mustang. The Mustang briefly stopped before the driver steered around the overturned truck through the grass alongside the interstate and fled southbound on I-75.

The semi-truck driver, a 34-year-old man from New Smyrna, was killed in the crash. The driver of the Chevy Trailblazer, a 63-year-old man from Palmetto, sustained minor injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 6:28 a.m. near Exit 220 on I-75 South close to State Road 64. All lanes of I-75 southbound reopened around 12:30 p.m. after a six-hour closure.

FHP has also released images of the suspect vehicle — a black Ford Mustang with rear louvers and possibly a stick camera on the rear. The driver is described as a male with a stocky build who was wearing a gray hoodie at the time of the crash.

Troopers are asking anyone with information or video of the incident to contact FHP by dialing *347 or submit an anonymous tip to Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS or ManateeCrimeStoppers. com.

Border Agents Find Nearly $5 Million in M**h Hidden Inside Trailer Wall Carrying ‘Cardboard’ Load During Secondary Inspection at Otay Mesa

OTAY MESA, CALIFORNIA — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly $5 million worth of m**hamphetamine from a semi-truck trailer this month after a secondary inspection at the Otay Mesa commercial crossing uncovered thousands of pounds of narcotics hidden inside the trailer’s front wall.

The seizure happened April 14, 2026, when a 31-year-old Mexican citizen arrived from Mexico at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility, also identified in reporting as the Otay Mesa Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, driving a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia tractor with an attached trailer.

According to CBP, the truck was hauling a shipment manifested as corrugated cardboard boxes when it was referred for secondary inspection.

Officials said nonintrusive imaging technology revealed anomalies in the trailer’s front wall. A CBP canine then alerted officers to that same area.

During a physical inspection, officers found 300 packages of m**hamphetamine concealed in the trailer’s front wall.

CBP said the seized m**h weighed 3,078.10 pounds, or nearly 1.4 tons, and had an estimated street value of $4,924,960.

CBP said transnational criminal organizations routinely try to exploit legitimate trade infrastructure by hiding narcotics inside otherwise lawful cargo and using misleading manifests to move drugs into the United States.

Officials said the case reflects how ordinary shipping paperwork and legal freight channels can be used to try to move industrial-scale narcotics loads through busy ports of entry that process large volumes of lawful commerce every day.

The agency said officers are trained to identify indicators of illicit activity and remain vigilant in detecting and interdicting illegal narcotics entering the country.

The case has been turned over to Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation. HSI is expected to investigate the broader network behind the smuggling attempt.

Otay Mesa Port Director Rosa E. Hernandez praised the officers involved.

“Our CBP officers at ports of entry are unwavering guardians,” Hernandez said. “Their diligence prevented illegal narcotics from entering our country, so our communities are kept safe from dangerous drugs.”

A longer version of her statement also said the officers’ work was supported by the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

Columbus Truck Driver Used False Name for 30 Years to Fraudulently Obtain CDL and U.S. Citizenship — Driver Who Killed Family of Three Now Faces Identity Fraud Charges

DELAWARE COUNTY, OHIO — The Columbus semi-truck driver charged with killing a family of three in a fiery construction zone pileup on Interstate 71 is now accused of more than three decades of identity fraud, with investigators alleging he fraudulently obtained his commercial driver's license under a false identity — raising serious questions about how he was ever legally behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle.

The Crash

On April 11, 2026, Modou Ngom, 50, of Columbus, failed to stop for backed-up traffic in a construction zone on northbound I-71 near the U.S. Route 36 and State Route 37 interchange in Delaware County. His semi-truck slammed into several stopped vehicles from behind, triggering a nine-vehicle chain reaction. ODOT traffic camera footage obtained through a public records request shows the white semi crashing into slowly moving vehicles in the right lane, with at least one vehicle bursting into flames instantly on impact. The semi then drove into the median, pushing at least two vehicles with it.

Luke Soposki, 37, Lynnea Soposki, 36, and their 1-year-old child — all from Ashley, Ohio — were killed. All three were traveling together in a Chevrolet Silverado. Three other people were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Ngom was arrested at the scene. He has since been indicted on three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault, all felonies. He has pleaded not guilty. He remains held in the Delaware County Jail.

30 Years of Alleged Identity Fraud

During the crash investigation, Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators discovered conflicting information about Ngom's identity in state and federal records. What followed was the uncovering of what authorities describe as more than 30 years of alleged identity fraud.

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Ngom appears to have entered the United States in the 1990s and soon began using multiple names and dates of birth to obtain state and federal identification. Evidence indicates he fraudulently obtained a new Ohio driver's license around 2003 under an alternate identity. In 2007, he fraudulently obtained a commercial driver's license under the same alternate identity. In the mid-2010s, he was naturalized as a U.S. citizen — also under that alternate identity. State records show he changed his name back to Modou Ngom in 2015.

Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson said he immediately directed state investigators to turn all findings over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio and the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office were also notified.

The identity fraud investigation raises a critical question that authorities have not yet answered publicly — whether Ngom would have ever been eligible for a CDL under his real identity, and whether the fraud allowed him to obtain credentials he otherwise could not have received.

CHP Finds Truck Hauling Equipment With Zero Tiedowns — Issues Reminder as Load Securement Will Be a Primary Focus of CVSA May Roadcheck

LE GRAND, CALIFORNIA — Troopers with the California Highway Patrol's Chowchilla River Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility are reminding commercial drivers to secure their loads after encountering a truck hauling equipment with loose cargo and zero tiedowns in place on April 27.

According to CHP, the driver was observed hauling equipment with chains, binders, dunnage, and boxed materials all free to shift or fall onto the roadway. "Remember: It only takes a second for unsecured cargo to become a deadly projectile," troopers said. The violation can result in out-of-service orders, citations, and road hazards for other drivers.

Under FMCSA regulations 49 CFR §393.100 and §393.110, all cargo must be properly secured, immobilized to prevent shifting, and equipped with the required number of tiedowns.

The reminder comes at a particularly relevant time. During the CVSA International Roadcheck campaign running May 12-14, 2026 across North America, inspectors will be placing special emphasis on load securement violations as one of the two focus areas for this year's blitz.

Dwayne Johnson Cited for Window Tint Violation During Traffic Stop in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, California — Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was pulled over by police Thursday and cited for a window tint violation shortly after attending a Walk of Fame ceremony.

The traffic stop occurred after Johnson left the ceremony honoring his The Smashing Machine co-stars Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

Johnson, 53, appeared subdued during the stop as an officer issued a citation. He later confirmed the reason for the ticket while speaking with a photographer.

Authorities cited Johnson for violating California’s vehicle window tint law.

California law requires front side windows to allow at least 70% of light to pass through. Windshield tint is limited to the top four to five inches. Rear windows may be darker if the vehicle has dual side mirrors.

A first-time violation typically results in a $25 fine and a requirement to correct the tint. A second offense can lead to a penalty of about $200 and an infraction.

Johnson’s representatives have not released a statement regarding the incident.

Pickup Truck Drives Over Lamborghini in Florida Parking Lot — Owner Escapes Uninjured Just in Time, Axle Catching on Windshield Pillar Saved His Life

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — A Lamborghini owner escaped without a scratch Wednesday afternoon after a pickup truck drove over his car while he was still inside it in a Lake Nona parking lot, with only a lucky structural detail preventing the situation from turning fatal.

Ramon Ferrer said he was looking for a parking space outside his gym on Narcoossee Road when he spotted a pickup truck coming around a corner at speed. He stopped and began reversing, but the truck never slowed. "She's going kind of fast, so I'm literally stopping. I'm reversing," Ferrer said. "I guess she never saw me, and so she just ran through me."

With the truck's tire right in front of his face, Ferrer jumped out of the car just in time. "I jumped out of the car because I saw the wheel kept on spinning. So I'm like, she still wants to go," he said.

What saved him from being crushed completely was the truck's axle catching on the Lamborghini's windshield pillar. "The only thing that actually saved me was God, of course, 100%, but another thing was her axle got stuck on my pillar on the windshield," Ferrer said. "If not, she would have just wrecked me over completely. It would have been a nightmare. I wouldn't be here right now, which is kind of crazy."

Cellphone video of the aftermath spread rapidly on social media, showing the pickup truck sitting on top of the crushed Lamborghini. The incident drew a large crowd of onlookers. "There were so many people there. They just went there to see the whole thing. They were taking pictures, videos, and it was kind of crazy," Ferrer said.

Ferrer had owned the Lamborghini for only five months before the crash. "I was able to buy the car, and that was a great, great feeling, and this happens five months later," he said. The car has been taken to a body shop to assess the damage. Ferrer said he still cannot comprehend how the driver missed his car. "I don't know how you can miss a whole car. I mean, yes, I'm slammed to the ground because it's a Lamborghini, but I mean, still, how can you miss a car?"

It is unclear whether the pickup truck driver was cited. Orlando Police directed media inquiries to a public records request.

New York State Police Search for Thieves Who Stole 60,000 Pounds of Walnuts Worth $50,000 From Two Commercial Trailers in the Bronx — Police Warn Vendors to Be on Alert

THE BRONX, NEW YORK — New York State Police are asking the public and food industry vendors to be on alert after 60,000 pounds of shelled walnuts valued at approximately $50,000 were stolen from two commercial trailers in the Bronx earlier this month.

The theft occurred on March 2, 2026, in the area of Hunts Point in the Bronx. The shipment, consisting of palletized boxes of packaged walnuts intended for commercial distribution, was taken from two 52-foot trailers. Investigators believe those responsible may be attempting to sell the stolen walnuts to third-party vendors, wholesalers, or distributors in the New York City area.

Food distributors, vendors, and members of the public are asked to be alert for anyone attempting to sell large quantities of packaged walnuts, particularly at prices significantly below market value or under unusual circumstances.
"Cargo theft is a serious crime that can cause substantial financial harm to businesses and disrupt supply chains, affecting consumers," NYSP said.

Anyone with information about the theft or who has been approached to purchase walnuts believed to be connected to this incident is asked to contact New York State Police Troop NYC at (212) 459-7800.
