New music from our newest composer/arranger - please welcome William Allen Pasch!

Tuba Diversions a l'Amadeus (William Allen Pasch). The tuba (Latin for “trumpet”) as we know it today did not exist in Mozart’s time, but this piece identifies themes from the witty composer’s works that he might have delighted in hearing the modern tuba play if it had been available. The samplings are (in order) the “Tuba mirum” from the Requiem; the piano variations on “Ah vous dirai-je maman”; the aria “O Isis und Osiris” from The Magic Flute; and the “Alla Turca” final (rondo) movement from the Piano Sonata in A (K331).

Six Scotch Dances, Book I (Hamish MacCunn, arr. Wayne Bennett). This set includes the first three of Six Scotch Dances, originally composed by Scottish composer and conductor Hamish MacCunn for piano in 1896. The three dances included in this set are the Welcome Dance, Kerchief Dance, and Gillie’s Dance. The movements contrast nicely and may be performed as a set or as individual selections.

Clifford Can Dance (Chris Savage). The first original composition by Chris Savage, Clifford Can Dance was written specifically for Gate City Brass (Atlanta, GA). Inspired by various Latin dance styles, this piece utilizes composite rhythms that flow through the ensemble.

Composed in 1904 with lyrics by Juan Francisco Munoz y Pabon, A la Nanita Nana is a traditional Christmas carol and popular lullaby. This arrangement is well suited for a concert, prelude, or reverential service setting.

It Came Upon the Midnight Clear (Richard S. Willis, arr. Chris Savage)

Edmund Sears wrote the poem “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” in Wayland, Massachusetts in 1849. The following year, he commissioned Richard S. Willis, a former student of Felix Mendelssohn, to set the poem to a melody. The melody, originally titled “Carol”, became popular throughout the United States. This setting for brass quintet reimagines the famous melody as a swing arrangement.
