It should be a crime to learn sales before learning delivery…

I know, I know… you need money… blah blah blah…

It should be required to take a business course before you can open a business…

I'm starting to believe that the same way people didn't know they were a part of the pyramid schemes… A lot of grifters don't know they're a part of the grift…

A business coach who knows sales but not business is probably the most dangerous thing you can incorporate into your business early on…

They literally train you to "mindset" your way around every piece of business you don't understand, sell your way through every problem, and fire your way through every team coaching and training opportunity…

Cash flow too low
Typical answer = sell more or raise price…
Correct answer = understand your numbers

Don't Know if you afford a hire
Typical answer = believe in yourself or do it and figure it out later… they'll free you up to blah blah blah…
Correct answer = understand your numbers

Sales Not converting
Typical answer = fire the sales team or hire a better sales team
Correct answer = understand your numbers

I could go on and on…

You will not market and sell your way out of a poorly run business. You'll only stretch the holes bigger and bigger.

Until business owners accept a few facts, they’ll continue to contribute to the “most business only surviving a couple of years” numbers…

Fact #1 -> Accounting is the language of business… If you don’t understand your numbers… you don’t understand your business…

Fact #2 -> Accounting and Finance is not the same as bookkeeping and tax… Businesses need accounting and finance, most business invest in bookkeeping and tax…

Fact #3 -> Ignoring the numbers in your business does not make them go away & most small businesses are running in place trying to avoid numbers as a part of their day to day business decisions…

Small businesses need the same thing big corporations need. Bookkeeping. Accounting. Advisory. Fractional CFO. Payroll. Taxes. The needs don't change. The budget does.

Attention doesn't pay the bills. Numbers do. You can have the marketing, the branding, the followers. If the numbers inside the business don't match the attention outside of it, none of that matters.

A million streams sounds like a win. Here's the real math.

A single stream pays $0.003 to $0.005. Less than a penny. A million streams generates $3,000 to $5,000 total. And that money doesn't go to the artist first. It goes to the label.

After the split, the artist is left with 10% to 15% of that number. Not 10 to 15% of a million dollars. 10 to 15% of $3,000 to $5,000.

Streams don't make artists rich. Ownership does.
