Mercy's Kennel is a story about redemption and salvation that transcends race, culture and economics to present a compelling look at the challenges facing pit bulls and people living in an increasingly hostile world. We shot the feature documentary with the cooperation of DeKalb and Gwinnett County Animal Services, The Humane Society of the United States, LifeLine Animal Project, and several independent animal welfare organizations and advocacy groups throughout Atlanta, GA.

Greetings HoodPuppies!

We swore we were done. It just goes to show; never say never. We decided to enter into this film festival after someone shared a message of encouragement with me earlier this evening. We made Mercy's Kennel for a damned good reason, and it's long overdue. Several of us didn't make it this far, but we can all live forever in our film. We hope y'all get a chance to see Mercy's Kennel in The ATL, where it belongs ... on the big screen. More to come. Woof!!!

The other day, I saw 3 kids on bikes with a brindle pitty puppy out next to the road. I asked if he was theirs because he had no collar. One turned to me and said, “don’t worry about him, he’s mine, but I’ll sell you this little mother……. Today, I see this. Here we are 15 years since we started our journey, and our grungy little film is as relevant today as it was when we began. We are still seeking distribution. Who can help us?

I must confess that I never got it right when using this platform to communicate with my broader network, so I will make another attempt and humbly ask each and every one of you reading this to lend me a hand. There is a long back story to this that would probably make your eyes glaze over, so I'll cut to the chase. In late 2010 I was rescued by a pit bull mix who found me on the streets of Atlanta, GA. His name was Elliott, and he led me down a path that resulted in my shooting, editing and producing what has become the most comprehensive documentary about pit bulls, pet overpopulation, backyard breeding and overcrowded animal shelters ever made. It is also about the violence of poverty in inner-cities and the lengths some people will go to to survive. When I embarked on this project I had no idea what I was doing, but with a great deal of assistance from a few key people I succeeded in producing Mercy's Kennel. This film is the story of a backyard breeder in Atlanta named G.K. who made a discovery that changed his entire life. This film will not only save millions of animals, but it has a strong message for our society as a whole.

I need to find a way to get my film seen by a mass audience, and this is where you come in. I rarely ask for help, but I'm asking now. If you or anyone in your network has the wherewithal to get Mercy's Kennel placed on a platform where it will get maximum exposure, I would appreciate the assist. Yesterday, we fell short of our target population for the week. While so many dogs found homes over the past few days, an overwhelming number continue to enter our facility and we can’t turn away a dog in need. 33 puppies arrived at our shelter last week alone, with more coming in almost daily.

Mercy's Kennel explores the socio-economic backdrop to what is commonly called "backyard breeding" to show how poverty and lack of education are at the root of pet overpopulation and animal abuse in many underserved areas around the country.
