This month’s contest is judged by internationally renowned artist Mark Daly.
Last day to enter is September 15th
This is also the last month to qualify for the 2026 Grand prize award and $10,000.

We recently flew into Amsterdam on our way to the Modern Impressionist Workshop Retreat Belgium with Lori Putnam. What a breathtaking city.

Michelle’s paintings carry a rare combination of sensitivity and strength. Her portraits are deeply observed without feeling overworked. The gesture remains alive, the brushwork visible, and light becomes as much a part of the subject as the figure itself.

For one extraordinary week in the Umbrian countryside, Michelle will share the thinking and decisions behind her work: seeing the larger relationships of light and color, simplifying the figure, creating atmosphere, and allowing expressive brushwork to carry the painting beyond likeness.

A week devoted to painting, observation, and learning from two of today’s best contemporary painters.

This beautiful work by award winning artist Lori Putnam is a reminder of what makes her paintings so compelling. Broad passages of color, beautifully judged temperature, and just enough information. Nothing is over explained.
This painting, Pretty in Pink, is featured in our visions of summer section in the current July/August issue.
And tomorrow, we leave for Belgium to begin preparations for our September 4th Modern Impressionist Magazine Workshop Retreat, where we’ll have the great pleasure of hosting Lori as our instructor.

Our home for the week is a magnificently updated 12th century castle, once owned by Napoleon’s niece and still owned by her descendants today.

In the beginning of June Spring emerges in the hills and mountains of Umbria, giving us a perfect opportunity to paint.
Paint the historic castle, the interiors, figures and over 1400 acres of the gorgeous Italian landscape.

Your retreat includes an elegant week long stay at the castle; gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our exceptional private chef using locally sourced ingredients; private airport transfers; two painting excursions to the historic hill towns of Assisi and Gubbio, with transportation included and full tuition for instruction for the week.
