So AI is too much of a hype-man? I get that.

Actually, kudos to you for noticing. An LLM's default is to agree with you but there are ways around that if you know how.

The reason it hypes you is simple. You ask "is this good?" and it goes hunting for every reason to tell you 'yes'. The question was framed so agreement was the only answer. Change the frame, you change what comes back.

Stop asking it to grade your idea and instead ask it to break it.

Try this- Hand it a role that has a reason to disagree with you: "Read my pitch as a skeptic and tell me what you'd say." Now it's not your hype-man, it's the hardest person in the room, and that's who you actually needed.

My favorite one is: "Before you agree with me, give me the strongest case against this with specifics." This makes it argue the other side first, so you know it's not just giving yes-man energy.

I keep saying this but AI is a tool. It'll respond to the inputs it's given, we just have to think differently about the way we're using it.

Trust me, you're not alone. What's the last thing AI cosigned that you knew good and well it shouldn't have? 😏

I hear it, I see it, but unpopular opinion: It's not AI's fault 😬

The flyers, logos, and websites all have the same fonts, layout, and overall feel. The sameness tho? Comes from the directions being given.

Everybody who types the same thing: "make me a flyer for..." will get that same output and if we're being honest, it's good enough for them 🤷🏽‍♀️

Prompts are available en masse online, but when we give AI the same input, we should expect a similar result.

I'm self taught, but one thing I caught on to quickly was the importance of a good quality prompt. This is where details matter because your unique vision is in the details.

So you're not wrong that things are looking very similar but don't hate the game, this time, it really is the playa 🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️

Stop boycotting AI and start shaping it please.

I saw a post on threads that said you cannot be pro-Black & support or use generative AI.

They had 24 downthreads with links showing "how AI harms Black communities".

The examples are real but incomplete.

AI doesn't disappear because you don't use it.

It is already inside our:

💼 Hiring systems
🏥 Healthcare tools
🏦 Banking decisions
🏫 Education platforms
📱 Apps on your phone

You deciding not to use it doesn't stop it from being implemented.

The people building keep building.

The people funding them keep funding.

And the gap keeps getting wider.

Abstaining doesn't slow adoption, it keeps your voice out of the room.

Decision makers don't listen to people who complain.

They listen to builders.

And users.

They listen to the people who know how the tools work.

AI does nothing on its own.

Humans prompt it, train it, and deploy it.

You can prompt harm.

You can prompt good.

But you cannot influence what you refuse to touch.

There are Black engineers, founders, and researchers working in AI right now.

They are:

🧠 Addressing bias in models
📊 Building datasets with better representation
🛠 Creating tools for underserved communities
💡 Designing systems with cultural context

That matters.

AI presents a chance to close economic gaps that have existed for generations.

Faster business creation.
Lower startup costs.
Access to knowledge that used to cost an arm and a leg.

If you care about equity, you need skill.

If you care about justice, you need literacy.

So ask yourself:

Are you criticizing from the outside?

Or are you learning enough to shape the future?

A corporate director told me something recently that got me thinking...

She said: "People think innovation means building a rocket ship."

Now, she's not a content creator nor a coach. She is literally paid by a Fortune-level company to lead AI adoption inside their organization. And she was telling me why it's not working.

"The finance team probably has 100 ideas sitting in their heads right now. But they don't see themselves as innovative people, so they never say anything."

Did you catch that?

The people closest to the problems are the ones who think their solutions don’t count. 🫤

We're teaching an entire generation of workers that innovation has a dress code🧑🏽‍💼

That it lives in a hoodie and a blazer on a stage in San Francisco. That it requires a developer, a pitch deck, and a term sheet.

And so the person who’s figured out how to save 5 hours of manual work for their team every week... keeps it to themselves because that doesn't feel like innovation the way people talk about it. 🫤

Here's what I know both from corporate and consulting:

Automations that make the most difference are never flashy.

It's the email that goes out without you writing it. The notes from the call that capture and summarize so you don’t have to worry about remembering. The report that builds itself while you do something else.

None of that is a ‘rocket ship’ 🚀All of it is innovation ✨

And you don't need to be technical to build any of it. You need to understand your own work well enough to know which parts of it are costing you time you can't afford to lose.

That's the real requirement.☝🏽

Leadership isn’t a lost art, but it feels like a dying one.

I recently had a male associate say to me, “You don’t know how hard it is to be a man who supports women who start acting like men.”

He was pressed over a strategic move he *thought* a female partner was making for her own benefit (which, funny enough, wasn't even true).

I wasn't offended, but I definitely clocked how comfortable he felt saying that to a woman he’s supposed to be working with. And it made me think about the bigger issue here: Since when is handling your business and taking advantage of a good opportunity considered "acting like a man"? 🤔 Let’s keep it real. Recognizing and moving on an opportunity isn’t masculine or feminine, it’s smart business. Period. The problem is people are letting too much emotion bleed into the workspace, and the vision gets blurred.

Everyone wants to act like order, organization, and hierarchy are "corporate standards." They aren’t. Structure is what keeps things stable, especially in the startup phase. You NEED clear roles, solid direction, and explicit responsibilities if you want to grow. This is exactly why proper business infrastructure is a must have, especially for service providers. We get so passionate and emotional about our craft that we completely forget to put the backbone behind it.

There’s a very unsexy, administrative side to this game that keeps everybody honest. People want to act like HR and formal protocols are outdated, but those are the exact guardrails that protect the business from the BS.

A strong leader must keep the company’s best interest top of mind at all times.

The startup world could benefit from some actual, strong leadership right now. Let’s leave the outdated commentary behind and go build something solid. 💼✨
