Ananda Lewis’s has passed away!

The former MTV VJ’s sister Lakshmi announced news of her death in a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, June 11.

“She’s free, and in His heavenly arms,” she wrote, alongside a series of broken heart emojis and a black and white portrait of Lewis. “Lord, rest her soul 🙏🏽”

Lewis became well known in 1997 when she was hired to be one of MTV’s VJs, hosting shows like Total Request Live and Hot Zone. In 1999, The New York Times dubbed her “the hip-hop generation’s reigning It Girl.” She left MTV in 2001 to host her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show.

Lewis had been open about taking a holistic approach to treating her breast cancer versus traditional chemotherapy.

She is survived by her son, Langston.

Ananda Lewis was only 52 years old.

Memphis rapper, GloRilla, stunned the audience by winning the BET Award for Best Gospel/Inspirational song. She won for the song “Rain Down on Me,” which featured Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music. GloRilla thanked “God” for the win for her first gospel-inspired single.

GloRilla is best known for the rap hit “FNF, Let’s Go.”

Sly Stone, eccentric frontman of his family group, Sly & the Family Stone, has passed away.

The musical icon had been battling lung disease, according to a statement provided by his family.

In 1966, Stone and his brother Freddie merged their own bands together to form Sly & the Family Stone. In it, women were vocalists and played instruments, a rarity for the era.

The band also included both Black and white musicians.

Sly and the Family Stone were known for such hits as "Family Affair" and "Dance to the Music."

Sly & the Family Stone's sound was a fusion of psychedelic rock, soul, jazz, gospel, and Latin.

The group's early morning performance at Woodstock in 1969 was widely recognized as a legendary moment in a legendary concert.

In 2017, The Grammys gave him a lifetime achievement award.

Sly Stone was 82 years old.

Wow! Audra McDonald had to remind the people why she's considered the GOAT of Broadway!

McDonald brought the audience to its feet with a ferocious rendition of "Rose's Turn" from the musical "Gypsy." She tackled the song with her emotions on full throttle. Everything was left on the stage!

Audra McDonald is the only person to win in all four major Tony Awards acting categories.

In addition, she's earned a record-breaking eleven nominations.

"Gypsy" follows the dreams and efforts of Mama Rose as she tries to raise two daughters to perform onstage, while facing the hardships of show business.

2025 Tony voters were skeptical to grant McDonald was her 7th Tony Award. Doing so would place her in a league nearly impossible for any other performer to match in a lifetime.

Instead, the Best Actress in a Musical award went to Nicole Scherzinger for "Sunset Boulevard." It was the first Tony trophy for Scherzinger.

Despite not winning for "Gypsy," Audra McDonald's place in history is solidified. On the stage, her talent is simply unparalleled.

History has been made!

Purpose, the play written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Purpose, has won the Tony Award for BEST PLAY!

Jacobs-Jenkins becomes the first Black playwright to win the Tony for Best Play since August Wilson took home the award in 1987 for Fences.

Kara Young won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play, becoming the first Black performer to win two back-to-back Tonys.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the Jasper family, a prominent Chicago household who is forced to face deep truths and challenge their ideologies.

The play was directed by Phylicia Rashad and stars LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Harry Lennix, Jon Michael Hill, Alana Arenas and Glenn Davis.

Nothing epitomizes this expression more than the re-creation of the gospel classic "Act Like You Know" by the daughters of the women who made the song famous!

Aaron Pace Rhodes, the daughter of LaShun Pace, and Kierra Sheard Kelly, the daughter of Karen Clark Sheard have teamed up to re-create the song made famous by their legendary mothers!

"Act Like You Know" was one of the hit singles off the 1996 LaShun Pace album A WEALTHY PLACE.

The 2025 version of the single was produced by DLo.

It's exciting to see two powerhouse singers following in the footsteps of their mothers!

The psychological crime drama that explores poverty in America follows a single mother (played by a fantastic Henson) who spirals into a bad day and finds herself a suspect in a crime she didn't commit.

Tributes have been pouring in for Pastor Norman Hutchins.

Pastor and gospel singer, Norman Hutchins, passed away at the age of 62 on Friday, according to a statement from his family.

Hutchins passed away at his home in California after a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure.

Pastor Hutchins produced such gospel hits as "Nobody But You," "Battlefield," and "Spontaneous Praise, Vol. 1."

He earned multiple Dove, Stellar, and Grammy nominations, with iconic hits like "Jesus I Love You" and "God's Got a Blessing."

In addition to being a gospel singer, Hutchins was a pastor and founder of Frontline Ministries in Dover. He also served as minister of music at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.

Pastor Hutchins faced serious health challenges over the years, including kidney failure caused by diabetes.

In 2014, he revealed that his wife Karen had donated a kidney for him.
