Bishop Noel Jones is back!!!

The senior pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, California underwent back surgery in July.

Following a successful operation and recovery process, Bishop Jones has officially returned!

During Bible Study on September 2nd, the 76-year old revealed that he had lost 40 pounds, going from 212 pounds down to 172.

However, he thanked God that he’s on the path to healing!

First Lady Loretta Jones shared, “faithfully praying, caring for, and nursing him [Bishop Jones] back to health.”

The City of Refuge family celebrated Bishop Jones’s homecoming, announcing that he is “walking tall, strong, and ready to declare the Word of the Lord once again.”

The upcoming 2026 US Open semifinal match between Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton is a monumental milestone!

The meeting marks the first time two Black American men have ever faced each other in a Grand Slam semifinal during the Open Era.

No matter who wins Friday’s match, the victor will become the first Black American man to reach a US Open singles final since tennis legend Arthur Ashe did so in 1972, and the first to reach any major singles finals.

By securing an all-American semifinal, they guarantee that an American man will compete in Sunday’s final.

This keeps alive America’s hopes of crowning its first male Grand Slam singles champion since Andy Roddick in 2003!

The 2026 Stellar Gospel Music Awards are facing intense online backlash after the Awards Show neglected to honor gospel great, Richard Smallwood, during the main show.

Smallwood passed away in 2025 at the age of 77.

Instead of a mainstage, primetime televised tribute, the “Maestro” was honored exclusively during the non-televised pre-awards show.

This decision deeply offended some who felt as if The Stellars had relegated a gospel pioneer to an afterthought.

The family of Richard Smallwood and The Small Rich Foundation addressed the omission directly in a letter posted online.

While thanking fans for their immense support, they noted: “We understand and share the disappointment expressed by so many... we remain equally committed to ensuring that Richard’s music, ministry, impact, and extraordinary contributions to Gospel music are never forgotten.”

Richard Smallwood is widely considered a musical genius who masterfully blending classical music with gospel. His compositions, like “Total Praise” and “I Love the Lord,” are musical anthems in churches worldwide.

The Stellar Awards not giving Smallwood a tribute commensurate with his impact to gospel music has re-ignited conversations around other notable omissions, including gospel greats LaShun Pace and Duranice Pace who were not recognized at all after their passings.

Nevertheless, following the Smallwood public outcry, Dr. Teresa Hairston Jackson, producer of the Stellar Awards Pre-Show and wife of Stellar Awards founder Don Jackson, did issue a sincere video apology.

She acknowledged the community’s deep disappointment regarding the oversight by The Stellar Awards and admitted the mistake.

Dr. Teresa further promised that The Stellar Awards would “get it right” moving forward.

God showed up through people for 81-year Brenda Daurham!

Brenda Daurham, a retired hairstylist and widow who has lived in her home for over 30 years, has been displaced for more than 6 months after a pipe burst on Valentine’s Day, causing catastrophic water damage.

Despite paying her premiums for decades, her insurance company, Allstate, denied her claim.

A restoration company hired cleaned up the damage but then placed an $18,000 lien after Allstate refused to pay. The huge property lien left lDaurham open to the possibility of foreclosure and property auction.

FOX 32 Chicago reporter, Tia Ewing, covered the investigation detailing Daurham’s plight.

After the broadcast, Daurham’s story went viral on social media and caught the attention of Tyler Perry.

Terry Perry stepped in to pay the $18,000 lien and agreed to update Daurham’s home.

Reporter Tia Ewing remarked, “Positive stories can change people’s lives, and in this case God showed up.”

History was made at 41st Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards!

Not only was Tasha Cobbs Leonard honored with this year’s Aretha Franklin ICON AWARD, it was announced that she is now the first artist to win the Icon Award plus all of the major female categories.

Tasha has won a remarkable 16 Stellar Awards, including the female award categories of
- Albertina Walker Female Artist of the Year
- Traditional Female Artist of the Year
- Contemporary Female Artist of the Year

The Aretha Franklin Icon Award was introduced in 2019 to honor individuals and family legacies that have made profound impacts on the gospel music genre.

Gospel singer, Lisa Knowles-Smith, took time to honor her mother at the 2026 Stellar Awards.

During the pre-show, while accepting the award for DUO/GROUP OF THE YEAR, Lisa told the crowd that this has been a tough season since losing her mother, Vanessa.

Vanessa Brown Knowles was a member of the quartet, Lisa Knowles-Smith & The Brown Singers, which has become of the leading voices in gospel quartet music.

In September 2025, she was involved in a fatal car accident at the age of 63.

Vanessa can be heard on the quartet’s award winning song, “Promises.”

Lisa Knowles-Smith and The Brown Singers were one of the most decorated artists at this year’s Stellar Awards.

It was REVIVAL in the city!

On Friday, August 28th, Bishop S.Y. Younger hosted a revival in the center of Times Square, New York City!

The massive outdoor worship event transformed one of the most famous destinations in the world into an open-air sanctuary!

Thousands gathered in Father Duffy Square (located at 7th Avenue & W 47th Street) for the communal experience.

The day began with an hour of prayer and acoustic worship, followed by the main revival service.

Bishop S.Y. Younger organized the event alongside a lineup of prominent figures in gospel music and ministry, including
- Bishop Hezekiah Walker & LFT
- Kelontae Gavin
- Pastor Kimberly Ray
- Pastor Marvin St. Macary

Bishop S.Y. Younger is both a minister and gospel artist. He serves as the founder and General Overseer of One Way Churches International and The Ramp Church International.

This year marks his 4th Times Square Revival!

Given the success of this event, it surely won’t be his last!

After nonstop touring in 2026, Gladys Knight is taking a step back from performing.

Knight announced on August 27, 2026 that she is “easing into fewer performances” as she transitions into the next stage of her career.

Her announcement follows concern from fans regarding her health during her 2026 tour.

Knight, now 82 years old, has spent most of the year touring and performing solo dates and co-headlining shows.

During an August 13th show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, she seemed disoriented.

Her husband and manager, William McDowell, noted that if her next scheduled performance on September 5 is rough, remaining tour dates may be canceled.

Gladys Knight is an R&B legend, known for her rich, expressive alto voice.

Some of her timeless classics include “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye),” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” and the collaborative anthem “That’s What Friends Are.”

She’s won 7-Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
