“Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?”
James 3:9-11 NLT
Before I rest and turn my attention to Sunday’s Faith Experience at , I am working on the devotionals for next week’s Faith in the Morning podcasts and newsletters.
Our words are powerful. They can become trees of life or dangerous weapons of poison. According to the above passage, one tongue can be the source of blessing and cursing. That means it is possible for a person to speak heavenly truth one moment and then spew denigration the next. The Scripture says that this is not right.
It’s not right, however it is the reality of many. We have to work on this. Life and death are in the power of our words. With our words, we can create, encourage, and inspire. We can also curse, poison, and destroy.
It’s not just about being the first one to post and speaking the truth. It’s not about “sticking it” to someone. It’s about speaking the truth in love. Paul said that speaking the truth in love is a sign of our maturity.
Our words have power. Let’s work on using that power consistently for good.
This is something we all have to work on. Let’s work on it together.
