I attended a networking event about FIBROID Health on Monday hosted by the Tu La 2 Brand & Atlanta Fibroid Center & it left me feeling heavy. I feel for women that lost the opportunity to have children too soon or were not treated properly including myself and suffered from multiple conditions due to Fibroids. Dr. Lipman also explained that procedures such as Ablation or Myomectomy do not get to the root cause.
The average age of women getting a hysterectomy is 39 y’all and it’s the Top #2 surgical procedure, with cesarean being #1.
*Everything is a money grab!*
Takeways from listening to Dr. Lipman:
- Don’t be afraid to get a second opinion.
- Request an MRI which will give you the exact number of fibroids (has to happen within a year of an ultrasound or insurance may not approve)
- Bring a set of questions written down to your doctor appointment to discuss
- Its beneficial to bring someone with you also as you may not remember everything that was discussed
- Don’t be intimated by the doctor title. Question what they say to you and get a second opinion if you are not clear or need another consultation.
Alternative option which Dr. Lipman offers:
Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), also known as uterine artery embolization (UAE), is a minimally invasive procedure that blocks blood flow to uterine fibroids, causing them to shrink. This procedure is an alternative to surgery for women experiencing symptoms from fibroids
Don’t let these people take your uterus! It can cause additional issues such as vaginal dryness and bladder spasms. Google “Depend” and see how young those women look on their packaging nowadays.
“Unless you have cancer, there is an alternative treatment option for virtually every other reason you might be considering a hysterectomy, Streicher says. And that's a very important message, she adds, because "too many women aren't given options and get hysterectomies when they don't need them or don't want them." Lauren Streicher, MD
I hope I helped someone with my post. I am considering the UFE procedure myself and will report back on results. You can look for an educational seminar near you or contact the Atlanta Fibroid Center to schedule a consultation.
