Why did my plumber do this?
Just trying to understand because I've never seen pipes under a kitchen sink look like this.
Context: slight remodel of kitchen. Brought a plumber in to move the kitchen sink down a few feet on the wall. It's a standard two basin stainless steel sink, probably originally installed in the late 80's. Cabinets were all removed, flooring was removed before he got there. No restrictions on what he needed to do. He said everything was done and I could reinstall the sink when I was ready. I've done that before and we were not thinking we'd have to change any of the pipes under the sink since it literally just moved 3 Feet south. But now I don't know what to do with these drain lines. He's not answering phone calls.

What would you do in this situation?
I need to replace my fill valve on my toilet. As you can see in the pic, the supply line was installed right up against the toilet (no clue why).

I will turn off the main water supply and can do the work to replace the fill valve but how do I fix this water supply line?

Do I just shorten it so it sits more behind the toilet so the valve can open and close? Maybe there is a fancy valve on/off that fits better?

Is there any way to turn off the supply to the toilet with the way it is now?

Thanks. Only have done basic toilet work when I was able to turn off the water supply at the toilet.

As you can also see by the high quality trim work and wallpaper, this bathroom will eventually be renovated.

Looking for advice. How does this look? Do I need to change anything before I glue?

Ok, here’s my corporate greed call-out of the day.

I was dispatched today for a no-cool call. The indoor unit was running, but the outdoor unit wasn’t.

The system was a 10-year-old Bryant Evolution high-end variable-capacity inverter system. After running the factory diagnostics, I found Code 77, indicating the inverter board was detecting excessive compressor startup current.

Following the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure, I disconnected the compressor leads to determine whether the fault was in the compressor or the inverter board. The results confirmed the inverter board had failed. The system is only 8 months out of warranty.

At that point, I started preparing myself to tell the customer the repair would probably be around $1,500–$1,900. I figured the board would cost somewhere in the $800–$1,000 range. After all, it’s just a printed circuit board.

Before giving the estimate, I called Carrier Enterprise for pricing.

$8,900.

Not for the entire outdoor unit.

Not for a complete system.

Just the inverter board.

That’s not a typo. $8,900.

In my opinion, this is the definition of engineered obsolescence. There is no reasonable justification for a replacement circuit board on a 10-year-old residential HVAC system to cost nearly nine thousand dollars. At that price, you’re essentially forcing the homeowner to replace the entire system instead of repairing it.

This is exactly why I’ll never sell Carrier equipment. They make decent equipment, but pricing replacement parts like this turns a repairable system into a disposable one. Homeowners deserve better than that.

Carrier Carrier Enterprise or anyone that’s sells this s**t, care to elaborate why this board is so expensive?

$5k is a very fair price for a total re-pipe of this, right? My neighbor plumber says it all needs to go - drain/waste out to the wye as well as replacing all of the copper supply with pex and says he can do it for $5k. (Colorado)

I am absolutely fuming. I hired a "Master Plumber" to install a new main line. He showed up with a battery tool and just clicked these pipes together like Legos. NO TORCH?? He didn't solder a single joint! He claimed these "ProPress" fittings are superior to welding. SUPERIOR?? I feel like he was just too lazy to do the job right. I paid for a plumber, not a guy with a crimping toy. Do I demand a refund for the lack of skill?

Help wanted. Installed a MOEN Posi Temp TWICE now because it continues to divert water to shower head when it should only go to tub spout. It is Not upside down lol. Still does it with tub spout removed, and spout pipes have been inspected and are wide open. Male adapters aren’t seated past the diversion ports. The tub spout is within Moens required distance and shower head is within their required distance. I AM LOST. It mainly only does it when mixing. On just hot or just cold it works as intended.

Is there any way to salvage this copper or am I looking at a repipe? 😳

I’m really in a bind here. I was trying to adjust the shower diverter valve to fix a leak, but I ended up mangling the copper pipe instead.
I don't know what I did wrong or how to fix this mess now that the pipe is damaged. Does anyone have advice on how to handle this repair? 🚰
