As Black people we have often witnessed s*x being performative only meant for procreation or some lascivious act done in the dark due to shame; yet when you get in partnership and you come together you find out….

1. No one taught me about s*x
2. No one normalized pleasure
3. No one told me my past fears would enter the bedroom
4. No one told me I would desire to be touched during the most inconvenient moments and totally removed simultaneously

We pass hurt generationally, as well as pain. We pass our unconscious desires generationally as well as our fears.

Most importantly, we pass shame as the container for all of these things to be held together.

Join us for a timely conversation about s*x and intimacy.

Why are Black couples not have s*x?

It’s not just stress. It’s not just schedules.

Black couples are carrying unspoken stories into the bedroom and it’s costing us connection.

🤎It’s the silence that builds between arguments.
🤎The pressure to be strong even when we’re suffering.
🤎The shame no one taught us how to name.
🤎The intimacy we crave but don’t know how to ask for.

S*x didn’t stop because the love ran out.

It stopped because safety did. 💔

This week on we’re unpacking what really happens when the bed goes cold and how we find our way back to each other.

🖤 Tag someone who needs this conversation.
📍Sunday, April 27th at 7 pm est
💭 Let’s talk Black love, trauma, and tenderness.

When couples stop having s*x, it’s not always because they don’t love each other. As a matter of fact, it’s rarely that and in Black relationships it gets extremely complicated because we often haven’t learned how to communicate our needs, frustrations or fears.

So what do we do?

We get silent.
Work harder.
Affirm the kids more.
Come home later.
Take on more in other areas of our life.
We deflect.
We scroll.

Until they decide to ask for help.

Join Us on Sunday, April 27th at 7 pm as .aaronjay and I unpack some real issues that people aren’t talking about.

This is a non-judgement zone. So bring your concerns, your spouse and possibly a friend that needs this conversation and we are going to get into some intimate issues so that we can learn to be Tender AF.

We’re back & buckle up because you are in for a treat.

Starting Sunday, April 27th at 7 pm EST me my brother from another mother .aaronjay are going live one Sunday every month for the next 6 months & we will be addressing some important issues that we have been seeing collectively throughout our line of work.

We have these 6 part series “Tender AF: Love, Identity & Healing the Black Body” and the first topic we are addressing is s*xless partnerships and the struggles Black couples are experiencing.

We’ve coined it “When the bed goes cold: Black love, S*x & the silence between us”

But also we will be addressing over the next 6 months: the shame of aging as a Black woman going through perimenopause/menopause/ post menopause, Black men and the relationship with masculinity, emotional cheating in the Black relationships, eldest daughters, and last but not least gay men and their desire to be seen.

So stay tuned 🤎

What would it take for you to step more into your femininity?

Being raised by over functioning women sets a bar that becomes hard to put down. It sets a back drop for how we work, how we speak to ourselves and most importantly how we allow others to love us.

Who would you be if you felt safe? A question I have been having with clients recently.

What stands in the way of your feminine energy?

For me, it’s when I haven’t been affirmed.

How about you? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy April🌼

While some of you have been rocking with me for some time (I appreciate you). I thought it would be befitting to get reacquainted with everyone. I am Dr. Ikeranda Smith (affectionately known as Dr. Ike) I am a Psychologist, Professor and a Life Coach. My greatest passion is to help individuals restore and nurture their connection with love. I specialize in studying the harmful effects of how the intersections of multi-generational trauma and epigenetics affects an individual’s overall relationship with themselves and others. I pull no punches but I am anchored in my love for people and the integrity it takes to facilitate authentic change.

While my work is rooted in understanding the predictive measures that race, class and gender has on an individual’s outcomes. I acknowledge how “shame” keeps people immobilized in unhealthy patterns and behaviors. Everyone deserves to sit at the feet of love’s wisdom even as they learn how to harness it in their own life.

As Black, Q***r, Woman I understand that representation matters therefore my work is BIPOC centered in that I seek to deconstruct the harmful ways in which Black and Indigenous families were dismantled, and how fundamental it is that we decolonize our perspectives in order to create communities that are rooted in self- love and collective care.

My sincere hope is for all people to legitimize their parents, find joy in consistently “doing the work” and creating a community of heart centered people who seek to love you for who you are and who you are becoming.

Welcome to my newcomers & thank you to my day ☝🏾’s for always rocking with me.

I look forward to getting to know you and allowing you to see how I’ve been evolving this season and how you can too.

Sometimes we misjudge avoidant individuals because we don’t understand the context of the things they say and the things they don’t. Take a look at some of the phrases you may have told someone who is avoidant and think about what they were navigating.

Raise your hand if you are avoidant?
