Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur has been producing elite athletes and championship teams for decades, and if you grew up in DeKalb County, you already know what the Panthers mean to that community. 🏈🏀🍑 From football to basketball, Southwest DeKalb built a tradition of excellence that sent players to major college programs and into professional careers, and the pride in that program runs deep through generations of Atlanta-area families.

But if you were a Braves fan during the dynasty years, you know exactly what he meant to this city. ⚾❤️🪓 In the 1991 World Series, Lemke hit .417 with three extra-base hits against the Minnesota Twins, playing some of the most clutch baseball Atlanta fans had ever seen from a second baseman who wasn't supposed to be the hero.

He was the heart of the Braves infield for nearly a decade: gritty, reliable, and absolutely fearless in the biggest moments. While Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz got the headlines, Lemke was down in the dirt making plays that won games, and every true Braves fan knew it. 🔥

On February 26, 2008, the Atlanta Thrashers traded Marian Hossa to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and for a lot of Atlanta hockey fans, that was the moment the dream officially died. 🏒💙💔 Hossa had been one of the two best players on the only Thrashers team that ever made the playoffs, and watching him get shipped out for a package of picks and prospects told you everything you needed to know about where this franchise was headed.

Three years later, the Thrashers were gone to Winnipeg.
