All taxpayers filing 2024 tax year Forms 1040 and 1040-SR must check a box indicating whether they received digital assets as a reward, award or payment for property or services or disposed of any digital asset that were held as a capital asset through a sale, exchange or transfer.

If individuals received any digital assets as compensation for services or disposed of any digital assets they held for sale to customers in a trade or business, they must report the income as they would report other income of the same type.

Under the federal Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) refunds before mid-February. In anticipation of a large funding file from the IRS in a few days, please note the following:
A majority of refund funding should be seen beginning Thursday, February 22nd, depending on the disbursement method. You may see refund funding come in earlier, or later depending on other variables.
While TaxSlayer Pro anticipates processing records we receive from the banks without delay, you may notice delays in banks acknowledging new bank applications, and your ability to run reports & print checks at your bank's website may also be affected.

If claiming an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), refunds could also take longer and may need up to one month to arrive. That’s because the IRS will need time to check if you are indeed eligible to receive these credits.
The act primarily affects people who are eligible to receive certain tax credits: People filing for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). Under this act the IRS will not release any funds nor will they provide any status information on these returns. Historically speaking the act usually will lift within 24-48 hrs of 2/15. 2/17 The Saturday immediately following 2/15 WMR (where is my refund) will update. Typically the following Saturday 2/24 dates will be released and that following Wednesday 2/28 we should see a good amount of returns funding. 3/7 and 3/14 the majority of refunds should fund out.
