We’re extremely sad to hear of Ricochet’s passing. She was a legend in the Surf Dog community. 💔
Ricochet has made the journey to Rainbow Bridge
My heart is full of sadness and gratitude today. Sad because Ricochet is physically gone, and grateful for the long and triumph life she lived to the fullest… helping millions along the way. I’m also filled with gratitude for all of YOU as you were such a big part of her life.
Yesterday at noon I ran an errand and Ricochet was fine. When I came home about 2:30, she was lying in the living room. I passed her and got to another room when I heard loud, strong panting. I went to her, and she was having tremors throughout her body. I quickly gave her some CBD oil, but it didn’t help. It seemed she couldn’t get up herself, so I helped her. She went outside and walked the property. She came up the back stairs and just laid at the top. Again, I helped her up and took her inside. She then went to drink water and stood there for about 5 minutes kind of in a fog.
I took her to the E/R, and they did an aspiration ultrasound of her stomach. It showed There was a rupture in her liver mass/cancer which caused inflammation and painful organs, fluid in her stomach and gas in her liver. The aspirate showed a lot of bacteria which caused sepsis. There was no bleeding just lots of bacteria. They gave her several pain injections, but the path of sepsis is ruthless and continues to get worse until the organs shut down.
The sepsis came on so fast and fortunately she didn’t have to suffer through it because around 10pm last night I let her go. Ricochet took her first breath in my hand when she was born… and she took her last breath in my hand yesterday. She was surrounded by those who love her, but she wasn’t really “there”. I believe her spirit was already gone and her body was just waiting to be done. In fact, Cori didn’t even want to go with me. Dogs know… they just know. And I think Cori said “nothing to see there” as she connected with Ricochet spiritually.
I didn’t just lose Ricochet, I lost a lifestyle too, so I’ll be stumbling through that loss as well. I don’t know where we go from here, but I trust the universe will guide me. I know Ricochet’s spirit will always be with me, and maybe one day she’ll return.
Believe it or not, it cost me $3209 with all the tests to find out what was happening. If you’d like to donate to her memorial fund, just go to https://bit.ly/RicochetMemorialFund. We’re also set up to take donations at Venmo . If you need the last 4 digits of my phone it’s 0679.
As always, and even more today… thank you so much for loving and caring for Ricochet. Your support is so appreciated, and I hope you continue to join us on whatever path is next for us. You are our family now and forever.

Further proof that you can't kill fun! For close to twenty years, Nederland had celebrated its resident frozen dead guy, Bredo Morstoel, with a quirky festival but in November it was announced that 2023's event would be canceled. Seems they spoke too soon! Estes Park to the rescue.
Estes Park is getting cooler.

The podcast about unique competitions and the extraordinary competitors that make them happen.
The world is a big, beautiful and sometimes strange place. All over the globe, interesting people are engaging in unique, quirky and just plain odd pursuits. Often, when one such interesting person desires to become the best at one of these unique pursuits, a competition is born. That's where we come in.
Our goal is two-fold. On one level it is to discover and share these perhaps lesser known competitions. There's a lot of cool stuff going down out there and your bucket list was too short anyway. These competitions are a great reason to check out a unique event in a new town. And who knows... maybe you'll be inspired to participate!
On the second level, these events wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the people who are so passionate about them. We're inspired and honored to share stories from these awesome competitors. They are truly extraordinary.
