Major highlight of this week was seeing this beautiful and large female Spiny Softshell Turtle (Apalone spinifera)! I love these unique turtles and whenever I get the chance to see a large “water pancake” I’m always hype!

I love how you can see their soft “puppy dog” nose in this shot! Likely the last adult male Suwannee Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys suwaniensis) I’ll see for a while, but what a beautiful one to say goodbye to the project with. Felt like I was on the cover of a Thundercat album taking this haha!

OUCH! First off this bite was completely my fault! The snake was purely biting out of defense and not aggression, and you can see that in the documentary! I know this is a lot more graphic than anything I’ve probably posted, but I thought I’d share the aftermath of a mistake I made in the field. While catching a wild Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) I let my guard down once the snake was secured and it struck my forearm. While this bite looks gnarly, it actually was a lot less brutal than it seems. Once the wound sealed it just appeared as a row of holes where the powerful jaws clamped my arm. Definitely was the worst and most painful bite I’ve taken and one I’d like to not take again!
