The Gwinnett County District Attorney's Office said 26-year-old Aundrey Michelle Townsend pleaded guilty to theft and elder abuse for scamming the couple out of nearly $50,000 in early 2024.

Townsend reportedly sent text messages to the couple posing as Chase Bank, who the couple banked with. She then had them transfer the funds to an account she controlled.

There’s been an update in the frozen funds for the senior work-based employment training program.

The Senate Appropriations Committee recently approved a bill that included funding for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

The Legacy Link's SCSEP Director Christine Osasu spoke with AccessWDUN about the dire straits many program members find themselves in as the funding is still frozen 45 days later, citing rising reports of homelessness and evictions in the senior community.

The funding will also go to the House Appropriations Committee, which U.S. Rep. for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District Andrew Clyde sits on.

In a statement to AccessWDUN, Clyde said that the American people gave President Trump a "historic" mandate to shrink government, and that he and his colleagues will review the funding as part of the ongoing process.
