For many women, fibroids are an unexpected but very real part of the midlife journey.

At shiftHER™, we talk a lot about perimenopause and menopause as biological transitions that deserve preparation. But we need to talk about how fibroids intersect with that transition.

The data is clear: Over 80% of Black women and nearly 70% of white women will develop uterine fibroids by age 50. During perimenopause, fluctuating hormones can actually cause fibroids to grow and symptoms to intensify.

And for many, the treatment, a hysterectomy with o***y removal, thrusts them directly into surgical menopause, often without adequate warning, preparation, or support for what comes next. Black women are two to three times more likely to undergo a hysterectomy for fibroids, often without being offered less invasive options first.

Too many women are suffering in silence. Not because they do not know something is wrong, but because no one has stood up for them yet.

That is what The White Dress Project: We CAN Wear White does. They stand in the gap until you find your own voice to advocate for yourself.

We are in complete awe of Tanika Valbrun and the mission she has built. This July in Atlanta, their Night in White Gala is more than an evening of elegance. It is a room full of women who refused to be dismissed.

shiftHER™ proudly stands with this foundation.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Shelia!

Today I’m celebrating someone I deeply admire and love. Dr. Shelia is truly a force to be reckoned with, not because she seeks the spotlight, but because she leads with purpose, generosity, and heart.

Her commitment to women’s wellness, especially women in midlife, is more than her work. It is her calling. She gives, she guides, she pours into others, and she shows up with a desire to see women well, informed, supported, and whole.

Dr. Shelia, I absolutely adore your heart, your presence, and the way you serve. Thank you for taking care of me, for showing up with such intention, and for being the kind of woman who pours into others so generously.

Wishing you a birthday filled with the same love, care, and joy that you so freely give. Happy Birthday, Dr. Shelia. You are deeply appreciated and loved.

Trouble sleeping. Mood changes. Cycles that suddenly feel unpredictable.

Many women experience symptoms of perimenopause years before menopause and often without realizing what’s happening.

You are not imagining the changes in your body.

Perimenopause is a biological transition that can affect sleep, energy, mood, focus, metabolism and more long before your period stops.

Pay attention to what feels different.
Track your symptoms.
Ask questions.
Advocate for your health.

The earlier women understand what’s happening, the better prepared they are to navigate the shift.

Midlife isn’t a pause. It’s a shift.

Strength matters.

Not just how it looks.
How it supports you.

The ability to move yourself.
Catch yourself.
Carry yourself through your life.

This is the kind of strength we should be building right now.

Start with yourself.

Midlife isn’t a pause. It’s a shift.

Never Skip Monday™

This is why we train.

Not just for the gym. Not for punishment. Not to chase a smaller version of ourselves.

We train so we can move through real life with strength, capacity, and confidence.

Carrying groceries. Lifting bags. Climbing stairs. Supporting our families. Getting through the week without feeling like every basic thing takes everything out of us.

I meal plan on Sunday because when I prepare, my week is better. I move through it with more ease. I support my family more efficiently. I am more present because I am not constantly trying to figure it out in the middle of the chaos.

That counts.

For women in midlife, strength is not optional vanity. It is part of how we protect our future health, independence, energy, and quality of life.

You do not need a perfect Monday.
You need a return point.

What is your one intentional action today?

Some people carry leadership in a way you recognize before you ever know the full scope of what they are doing.

I met Janis Middleton a few months ago, and in that short amount of time, she has already left a real imprint on me.

So when I attended the Kate’s Club event and saw that she was not only serving on the board, but also co-chairing the evening, I was not surprised. It felt completely aligned with who she has already shown herself to be: thoughtful, present and deeply committed to work that matters.

I will be honest, I did not know enough about Kate’s Club before being in that room. But after hearing the stories, witnessing the care, and understanding the depth of their work, I left emotionally moved and very clear that this is a mission more people should know about and support.

Grief touches more families than we often realize and children deserve spaces where they are seen, supported, and not left to carry it alone.

Last night did more than raise awareness for me. It made the need impossible to ignore.

Motherhood is not one story. And neither is Mother’s Day.

This Mother’s Day, shiftHER™ is holding space for:

Mothers carrying everyone.
Those missing their mothers.
Those grieving children.
Mothers doing it alone.
Those longing to mother.
Those healing complicated stories.
Those who nurture without the title.
Those choosing a different path.
Those mothering across generations.

We also honor the women who raised us and the women they had to be along the way.

The daughters who now see their mothers more fully.
The women who passed down resilience without always having language for it.
The women aging with wisdom, softness, grace and strength.

However this day meets you, you are not invisible here.

If your body is giving you signals…

this is where you start.

Not with more tests.
Not with guessing.

With awareness.

Start paying attention to patterns like:

Sleep
Energy
Mood
Cycle changes
Weight fluctuations
Hot flashes or temperature shifts

You don’t need to track everything perfectly.

You just need to start noticing what’s changing.

Because when you can see the pattern…

you can start asking better questions.

And that gives your clinician clearer insight into what you’re actually experiencing.

Because sometimes, the labs just aren’t enough.

And that’s where things begin to shift in your care.

👇🏾What’s one pattern you’re ready to start paying attention to?

Midlife isn’t a pause. It’s a shift.
