The 38th Annual Georgia Veterans Day Parade was held yesterday in Downtown followed by by a free festival outside World of Coca-Cola in Pemberton Place. Veterans and military members (active duty, reserves and retirees) can visit World of Coca-Cola free of charge year-round. Through Nov. 11, members of the Armed Forces may purchase up to four half-price general admission tickets for their friends and family to join them in visiting the attraction.

Traffic Alert: Expect major traffic delays later this morning and afternoon as President Trump visits Atlanta for a fundraiser and campaign events. Air Force One will land at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta around 11 a.m. and the motorcade will go to Buckhead for a fundraiser and lunch. The Peach Drop won’t be happening this New Year’s Eve, according to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. She broke the news this afternoon on Ryan Cameron’s Majic 107.5 radio show. Bottoms said since the city no longer owns Underground Atlanta, a new location and plan needs to be found but promised the event would return “bigger and better.” The Peach Drop has been a tradition for 30 years.

The Atlanta Film Festival and its year-round parent organization, the Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS), presented filmmaker Spike Lee with its Originator Award at an awards ceremony last month celebrating the conclusion of the inaugural Morehouse College Human Rights Film Festival. The three-day festival was co-presented by the Atlanta Film Society and Morehouse College. Lee is the second recipient of the prestigious award, which was created in 2018 by the 43-year-old non-profit to recognize visionaries who are often imitated, never duplicated, and always responsible for setting new industry standards. Lee, a 1979 graduate of Morehouse, is also an alumnus of the festival, which first presented Lee’s “Last Hustle in Brooklyn” to an audience 40 years ago. Christopher Escobar, Executive Director of the Atlanta Film Society, presented Lee with the award.

MARTA celebrated the 40th anniversary of combined rail and bus service with a stakeholder reception at Georgia State Station, followed by a free festival and concert near Avondale Station on Nov. 3. Following the reception, guests were treated to a train ride from Georgia State to Avondale, which mimicked, in reverse, the first ride in 1979. During the commemorative ride, guests heard the history of MARTA. At Avondale, they were greeted on the platform by 70s-themed dancers, a throwback to the theme of the day, “A Ride Back in Time.”The festival and concert featured music by local bands The Mar-Tans and Yacht Rock Schooners.
