💔 Domestic Violence Awareness Month | What Love Is Not

When I was twenty-one, I thought jealousy meant love.

My partner and I were driving down Slappey Boulevard in Albany, Georgia one afternoon. We stopped at a red light. A man in the next car looked over, smiled, and winked at me.

Before I could even react, my partner jumped out of the driver’s seat—right there, in the middle of traffic—to fight that man. Cars were honking. People were staring. I sat in the passenger seat, frozen, scared, and ashamed.

When he got back in the car, he started yelling at me, saying I should not have looked at the man. His voice was shaking with anger.

And you know what I thought?
I thought, “He must really love me.”

I mistook his control for passion.
I mistook his anger for care.
I mistook his possession for protection.

That wasn’t love.
That was control.
And control, left unchecked, becomes abuse.

So if you are a teen or young adult reading this, listen carefully:
🚫 Jealousy is not love.
🚫 Yelling is not passion.
🚫 Control is not care.

Real love never humiliates you in public.
Real love never blames you for someone else’s anger.
Real love never makes you afraid of the next reaction.

Teach this to your sons and daughters.
Teach it to your students, your friends, and your younger self.

Because the signs start small,
and if no one tells you the truth,
you’ll start believing that chaos means you matter.

Love should never make you afraid. 💜

💔 When I was twenty one and four months pregnant,
the man who said he loved me took the back of an iron
and struck my head.

I begged for help that never came.
He said, “I’m sorry… you’ll be alright.”

But I wasn’t.
And that is why I speak now.

We have to start early.
Teach our children that love should never hurt.
Teach our teens that control is not care.
Teach every child, boy or girl,
that anyone who hurts you and calls it love
does not understand love at all.

Healing begins when truth replaces silence.
Real love will never ask you to suffer to prove it. 💜

Starting over is not a setback. It is a sacred restart.

When children grow up watching love replaced by shouting, silence, or shame—
they start to believe that pain is part of affection, and fear is part of respect.

But love that hurts isn’t love.
And discipline without compassion becomes trauma that echoes for generations.

We can break that cycle.
Start by showing children that safety and kindness are not luxuries—they’re their birthright. 💙

👩🏽‍🍼 Your mama should’ve told you

If you ever move out
and leave your child behind,
you didn’t start a new life…
you ended your purpose.

No man is worth
watching your child walk home
to an empty house.

A real mother doesn’t move out
and call it love.
She moves through the struggle
and finds a way to keep her child safe.

Because love that abandons
isn’t love at all!
It’s weakness wearing human skin. 💔

When a narcissist loses control of the story, they have only two roles left — the hero or the victim.

First, they show up pretending to help you.
They act like they are saving you from pain, but it is not about you.
It is about keeping a reason to stay connected.

When that no longer works, they switch.
Now they claim to be the one who was hurt.
They say you misunderstood or made them act that way.

They rarely act alone.
They send others, the ones who say they are checking on you or just want peace.
But what they really want is a way back in.

Healing means seeing what is really happening.
You do not need to explain.
You do not need to defend yourself.
You do not have to take part in their drama.

Silence is not weakness.
It is peace.

Decades of brutality captured in stark numbers: since 2009, more than 19,000 churches burned, over 125,000 Christians killed, 600+ clerics abducted and 1,100 Christian-majority communities sacked in Nigeria. This is not only a humanitarian tragedy—it’s a wake-up call to a crisis of faith, identity and governance.”
