Michael B Jordan People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, is once again helping to redefine the fashion game. Jordan, who became Coach’s first global menswear ambassador in 2019, partnered with the brand again for their Fall 2021 campaign.

The campaign, sprinkled throughout with Jordan’s natural charisma and joy, focuses on the unforgettable moments that are born when a community revels in the simple joy of being together. With a distinctive city-feel, Jordan’s highlighted style includes an eye-catching aviator-style jacket, with a leather hitch backpack and boots.

Coach has also dropped a new Camo Print collection. This new collection will reinvent the concept of camo by introducing bright splashes of neon throughout the prints--instead of blending in with the background, the new style will thrust you into the spotlight!

Also, the polls are officially open until October 7 for this year’s People Magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive 2021. With multiple categories, be sure to cast your vote and don’t worry, you can still vote for Michael if you want to!

Have you seen the new wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hollywood? That’s right--the stunning Angela Bassett finally has her own stunning doppelganger! Seeing these two together reminded us what a force Bassett is, so for this #WomenCrushWednesday we’re celebrating the life and career of Angela Bassett (the real one, not the wax figure)!

With a career spanning nearly 40 years, Bassett is an icon of both film and television. On screen, she’s portrayed numerous historical figures like Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, and even Tina Turner. For her role as Turner, Bassett became the first African-American to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. We could spend the rest of this post just listing her numerous accolades and still not capture the impact she’s had on the industry. “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Boyz n the Hood,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “Black Panther,” “American Horror Story,” the list of Bassett’s incredible roles goes on and on. Her recent role on FOX’s “9-1-1” 9-1-1 on FOX, a show that she also executive produces, has made her the highest-paid actor of color on network TV. Did you catch the season premiere this past Monday? We definitely did!

With every step Basset takes she sets a new milestone. We can’t wait to see what she cooks up next!

Coffee Bluff Pictures is very excited to announce that our founder, Deborah Riley Draper, has been named a “Champion for Good” by the Ad Council for her work on the ongoing COVID-19 Vaccine Education Initiative! As a career advertising executive and award winning filmmaker, with this project Deborah has been able combine those two areas of expertise for the greater good.

This summer, Coffee Bluff Pictures, led by Deborah Riley Draper, began working with the Ad Council and JOY Collective, along with the Black Coalition Against COVID and the Voices for Our Fathers Legacy Foundation, to create a short-form documentary featuring descendants of those impacted by the U.S. Public Health Services Syphilis Study at Tuskegee. Written and directed by Riley Draper, “The Tuskegee Legacy Stories” highlights the contrast between the Tuskegee Study and the current COVID-19 pandemic, while also building confidence in public health and important COVID-19 vaccines.

The 46th annual Toronto International Film Festival is officially in full swing! TIFF, one of the biggest film festival events of the year, officially opened yesterday with the showing of Stephen Chbosky’s “Dear Evan Hansen.” Despite the tumultuous year we’ve all had and the unsure times we live in, TIFF has succeeded in putting together yet another amazing film lineup. Some films that caught our attention are Antoine Fuqua’s “The Guilty,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, “Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over” directed by Dave Wooley and David Heilbroner, and “Successful Thawing of Mr. Moro” directed by Jerry Carlsson.

We want to give a special shout-out to filmmaker Rebeca Huntt whose autobiographical documentary “Beba” will be premiering at TIFF this weekend! Her film, which took over 8 years to produce, is a beautiful self-portrait and a stunning look into one’s self, family, and the multitudes that are contained in each. “Beba” premieres in-person September 11th at 6pm EDT in the TIFF Bell Lightbox and digitally on September 12th at 3pm EDT.

What film are you most looking forward to at TIFF?

Michael K. Williams was a giant of his time. Like so many others in the past few days, we share in the mourning of this profound loss and in the celebration of the life he led. From his breakout role on “The Wire,” to his Emmy-nominated performances on “Bessie” and most recently, “Lovecraft Country,” to his standout performances in films like “When They See Us” and “12 Years a Slave,” Williams continuously brought to life the complex and important figures we so seldom see. He was one of the most talented actors of the era. In addition to his might as an actor, Williams is perhaps best remembered for the wonderful and caring person he was. You don’t need to look hard to find any of the numerous accounts of his generosity and kindness. With his passing, we must cherish the good he has done and the towering legacy he leaves behind.

Our hearts go out to his family and all those who love and care for him.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti last month, in which 304 people lost their lives and nearly 2,000 more were injured, the Haitian fashion house Haus of Cité Soleil and Black Fashion Fair have come together to use fashion as a way to support the people of Haiti. The two organizations have created a capsule collection of shirts and other fashion items that will act as a fundraiser for Haiti, with the proceeds from the collection going to Hope for Haiti, a Haitian non-profit organization.

Each shirt in the BFF x Haus of Cité Soleil collection features a hand-sketched drawing that depicts cultural icons Muhammad Ali and Arthur Ashe.

History has been made! We want to congratulate director Nia DaCosta for the historic success of her film Candyman (2021). With an opening weekend that brought in more than $20.4 million, the long anticipated horror sequel--written by Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, and DaCosta--topped the charts of this weekend’s domestic box office. This accomplishment makes DaCosta the first black woman to direct a film that opened at # 1!

DaCosta is truly an inspiration, and we are overjoyed to see her talent recognized. We’ll be sure to look out for her next big movie, Marvel’s “The Marvels.” It’s sure to be a hit!

Thank you Kevin B. O'Reilly and the American Medical Association (AMA) for featuring the "Tuskegee Legacy Stories" public service campaign on July 23 and for underscoring the facts of what happened in the USPHS Syphilis Study at Tuskegee. Descendant Lillie Tyson Head emphasizes in the article that "We should not allow anyone who needs and wants a COVID-19 vaccine to not get their questions answered—or be denied the opportunity to get it...We must protect ourselves and each other."

Written and directed by Deborah Riley Draper and produced by Coffee Bluff Pictures, the "Tuskegee Legacy Stories" is a collaborative effort with Coffee Bluff Pictures, The Ad Council, JOY Collective, Voices for Our Fathers Legacy Foundation, and the Black Coalition Against COVID. The campaign highlights the contrast between the USPHS Syphilis Study at Tuskegee and the COVID-19 pandemic.
