******** NIC SANDERS – BEHIND THE MUSIC *******
High energy, unique style, and endless talent only begins to describe Nic Sanders, a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Marietta, GA who is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. His enthusiastic ability to combine rock and reggae is something very rare, very unique, very NIC! It will definitely light a fire that can not be extinguished.
I saw Nic perform live at Madlife Studios in Woodstock, GA in March of 2020 and was blown away by what I witnessed. His approach to writing music goes deeper than the obvious and his ability to make it appealing to all ages is another of his unique facets. He has fronted a couple of different bands in the past (Nic Sanders and the Conscience Few, and Grahams Number) but is now a one-man-band – more on that in a bit. He, with his previous bands, opened for Paul Rodgers of Bad Company on two occasions before he took a reluctant break from music for a few years.
During an interview on The Saltymf Goat Podcast, - Salty’s Live Music on 11/27/24, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xmfQO0DMt4, we learn about the story behind the individual of Nic Sanders. He writes from the heart, listening to what the universe whispers, and follows its lead. Nic shares that his main focus is to use music to influence good and positivity. Following the path you were meant to follow in life has its rewards. He gave an example of that mentioning that after one of his shows, there was a guy that had heard his song “Evergreen”, (which is the first song he ever wrote at the age of 16) and was crying – telling someone, “please tell that guy {Nic} that he changed my life”. Nic says, “THAT is what I play for” - touching souls and helping hearts to heal.
At the age of eleven, he got his first guitar and would sit for hours and just “make noise”, as Nic put it – in the process of teaching himself how to play and how to understand the guitar itself. While sitting outside looking up at the stars, he said the song just came to him, word for word, note for note – basically writing itself. He just had to listen – and he did! He soon realized that music is a bigger being than we think and is a gift to be shared. After high school, Nic knew he wanted to play music and met a guy who then introduced him to another guy who is now his landlord, David Stanley. David wanted to take Nic and his band, Grahams Number, under his wing with the guidance and help of Nic’s co-manager/booking agent, Lucy Piller, and make something happen. So out of high school, with Nic fronting Grahams Number, they played gig after gig after gig from 2010 – 2014. At that point, the band members decided they didn’t really want to do this anymore so that faded out to Nic’s dismay. During this down time, Nic took a break himself from music, got married, had kids and was living a great life but music was always there – calling, beckoning, refusing to be ignored. After a few years, he had to give in to that calling. In 2019, he decided to take some steps in that direction. He went online to Atlanta Institute of Music and Media to find they had cut their prices for their classes so he took advantage of that! After working 40 to 50 hours a week he would come home, drink some coffee, and be up from 9:00 PM until 2:00 AM doing the work for the classes, where he was learning the skills that would launch him into his career. The one-man-band was being shaped into the musician he had dreamed of becoming. He learned to mix the tracks of himself playing each instrument, blending them into songs that have so much depth and passion!
If you get the opportunity to see him live, you’d be well advised to do so. You won’t regret it! Follow Nic on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for updates, videos and other cool stuff!
