Sandy Springs, only 16 years old, has a lot going for it. Consider: Money and Safewise magazines label it one of America’s safest cities (overall crime has dropped every year since 2013). However, its mayoral and City Council elections (as in many other Georgia cities) provide a snapshot between candidates with radically different visions of issues ranging from public safety to neighborhood integrity.

Kevin Perry talks health initiatives at the Georgia Beverage Association | InsiderAdvantageGeorgia

It may seem counterintuitive at first glance that the Georgia Beverage Association – which advocates in large part for soft drink giants like Coca-Cola – would be devoted to making sure the public has access to healthier drinks with less calories and sugar. But that is exactly what it is doing, pushing low calorie options like Coke Zero and offering more drink choices with less sugar to students.

As part of that effort the GBA has partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation for the Balance Calories Initiative, which continues to shift the market towards healthier beverage options.

GBA President and CEO Kevin Perry discusses the impact of the “low sugar shift” with Georgia CEO:

GEORGIA VOTERS CAN SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY AND HUMBLE CURMUDGEON, MITCH MCCONNELL. The worst person in Washington, DC IS not TRUMP, but Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell. TRUMP is a dumb, useful idiot who spent his time bullying, hating, lying, and stealing. He did not take the time or have the intellect to learn how the government worked. McConnell was the puppeteer and TRUMP was the puppet. President Biden will give us a stimulus package that includes $2,000 a month for each deserving adult, $600 per week added to unemployment, forgiveness for most students loans, job training, grants and low -cost loans to small businesses, health care, and a joint plan with governors and mayors to slow down and stop the spread of Covid-19. Biden needs Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock the two Democrats running for the U.S. Senate to make Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis and our dream happen in 2021, the acceptable year of our Lord. I know only a few people in Georgia, my first Cousin Alfred and his family. I will call Alfred and ask him to work for and vote for these good and qualified men. I will tell Alfred there are two seconds left in the NBA finals and he, and all the kind- hearted voters in Georgia, are beyond the three-point line with the game on the line as they shoot a “Hall of Fame, Dominque Wilkins like” jump shot and hit all net. There comes a point in everyone’s lives when we ask our higher power for a second chance. If you are like me, I do not live in Georgia, we have a second chance to do two things. Send a small donation and or contact someone in Georgia and encourage them to save us all by voting. We Democrats will take control of the Senate and our United States successful, to this point, the experiment with democracy lives on for another four years. To thank our higher power and put our “love train” back on the track, the following will happen: President Biden will sit at the Steinway piano in the oval office, play ,and sing his Ray Charles, soulful version of “Georgia”. Then in the East Room, Vice-President Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Jim Clayborn, and Barack Obama will dance and sing Gladys Knight and the Pips’ rendition of the “Midnight Train to Georgia”. They both will drop their mikes when finished. (SMILE) Will you make the best use of your second chance??
Thoughts on Georgia Power, Atlanta Airport, Rabun County & The Georgia Legislature! After listening to your Christmas Eve show, I simply must comment. Apparently Leaders are scratching their heads trying to figure out a way to Repopulate Rural Georgia, even considering tax deductions and payments as Enticements! Here's an unheard of take on the situation... Rural Residents sacrifice Financially and Significantly in many ways for the trade-off of quietly living outside major metropolitan regions. However, it doesn't mean we are Immune to the Need for Fair Treatment within reason! Much is being said about the Airport Nightmare Georgia Power Fiasco that affected nigh 35,000 but what was said about the Rabun County one that affected nigh 25,000 back in September? I doubt you even heard of it! Surely you remember Hurrican Irma and her Unique Visit to Georgia? Well, she left quite an Imprint on Rabun County... you know that county so far north and east that some think she's actually in The Carolinas? Her county seat is Clayton... which immediately gets confused with Clayton county, Atlanta & the Airport! Well, Irma took down trees and power lines all over Georgia and she had NO Mercy on Rabun County. Perhaps, besides being Insignificant in the Grand Scheme of All Things Important, Damage wasn't supposed to be this BAD that Far North? At any rate, the Residents of Rural Georgia in the City of Clayton, and Rabun County Sufferred Financially just as Delta Airlines when we were both left in the Dark! Delta & The Airport for hours, our residents for days, like 6-7! Percentage wise I suspect our uncompensated losses of at least 50-500,000 as compared to Delta's 50 Million hit our pockets as Deeply as Delta's! But who heard us... the Georgia Legislature, who wants to know why Folks flee Rural Georgia? I am sure they hear Delta Airlines! Point made? During the week that we lost Freezers of Frozen Food & suffered damage to homes and vehicles, I saw ONE Georgia Power Utility Truck! What? ONE? Yes, and we were left Literally in the DARK for a week with little Reliable Information as to When to Expect Power Restoration! We're working on it, Tomorrow Hopefully, etc. We were Put off not just in Importance, but in Truth! Common Sense told us that Atlanta would be restored before we were even thought about... yet ONLY ONE truck in Rabun County? The county that Georgia Power used to create Electricity for Atlanta only a hundred years ago? When I saw Quebec, Canada Utility Trucks Rolling in down #441 North and then Ottawa trucks the next day, I literally Cried and sang "Oh Canada"! Priority had been given to City Businesses, as we expected also, but WHEN was Help coming? WHY hadn't we been told the Truth? There were NO Generators available in any direction for 100 miles plus! Asheville, Greenville, Atlanta... No Help! Help came from Canada? Really? What happened to all those Utility Trucks and Workers who once formed the Line of Defense for Georgia's Residents dependant upon Georgia Power - The State's Utility? The Georgia Power who convinced the Legislature that it was Wiser to have the Public Consumers without Marketplace Capitalistic Freedom of Choice finance the Building of Plant Vogtle rather than its' shareholders? We have seen our Electric bills skyrocket since Georgia Power was made a Parasitic Burden on the Backs of the Public, yet the Legislature & PSC grapple with cost overuns and loss of rural residents? Elderly, Vulnerable Rabun residents without family or friends were panicking back in September as they were without food or money having budgeted and shopped for the month! Personal problems ~ yes, But yet, the REAL PLIGHT of the Rural Forgotten! I say look after those who already Live in Rural Georgia with Reliable Services, Just Treatments and Financial Opportunities - JOBS & Just Compensation for Losses exactly as you'd consider for Big Business! While Georgia may have attained the Reputation for the State to do Business in, Bringing those Business Jobs to Rural Georgia will make Georgia the Place to LIVE IN! The Plight of Rural Peoples over the past Decade has Forced Many to abandon their Farm homes for city jobs or even worse, the weak to Escape to the Evil Enticement of Drugs... it's Simple Economics - Bring the Jobs back and you won't Need to Worry about Financial Incentives or Enticements... Country Living will take Care of that! People Will Want to return to their Roots! Thank you!
This is a handy guide to Georgia's top lobbyists & business/trade associations. And there are "must-read" features and columns!
