Is sixty too old to rebuild your life after losing everything?
I lost everything at 65. I had just retired and my husband cheated and became abusive when I found out .( I hired a private detective).
I had to move 7 hours away. I am 70 now, and working, and meeting new people, and doing things I know I would never do had I stayed. New adventures, new skills, new friends. My ex remains unsettled and miserable. So, although I will never gain my financial security back, ironically I am now making more money than I have ever made in my entire career.
But, I’m 70. So, it is bittersweet. Forcing myself to have the best time I can, in the maybe 10 good years I have left of functionality

An elderly man rear-ended a guy driving an expensive European sports car. Enraged, the guy hops out and confronts the old man. He yells,
Look what you did to my car! You're going to give me $10,000 right now or I'm going to beat you to a pulp!
Oh my… the old man said nervously. I don't have that kind of money. Let me call my son.” he said with hope. “He trains dolphins and he will know what to do.
Dolphins! the other driver huffed, while rolling his eyes.
The old man pulled out his phone, dialed his son, and just as his son answered, the irate man snatched the phone away from the old man.
So, YOU'RE a dolphin trainer, huh?” The irate man yelled, “Well, your old man here just rear-ended my car and I need TEN GRAND right now, or I'm going to beat you AND your old man to a pulp!
I'll be there in 10 minutes. says the voice calmly on the other end.
Exactly 10 minutes later, a Jeep pulls up and a guy hops out and proceeds to pulverize the bully, leaving him in a heap on the side of the road. When he finished, he walked over to his father and said,
For the last time dad, I train Seals… Navy Seals. NOT dolphins!”

They planted fish and rice on the land in Indonesia.. Check the picture
Rice crop requires large amounts of water; Therefore, farmers in Indonesia devised a way to benefit from this water. They brought fish and released them in large numbers into the water in which rice was grown, and they gained three benefits:
🌾Fish eat insects, algae, and harmful pests that collect on the soil, and fish feed on plant branches at the same time.
🌾The second benefit is benefiting from fish waste for soil fertility.
The third benefit is that the fish itself grows and increases in reasonable quantities (as food for farmers or trade).
This movement was known as the rice/fish culture. After implementing this plan, land production increased by about 20% above the normal limit, in addition to the huge quantities of fish.

Customer came in for an oil change today. As I'm writing up the order they explicitly stated that they do not wan't to be Upsold any useless services. Don't try and sell me no air filter, cabin air filter, transmission flush... That's not completely out of the ordinary. Some people just want their oil changed and out of here as soon as possible. Problem is when we got their car on the lift I saw that one of the tires was completely messed up beyond what is safe to drive on. The wheel wasn't much better. I tried explaining to them how unsafe driving on this tire would be. I also strongly suggested they at least take a look at what I was talking about before deciding to not do anything about it. They refused. I had to have them sign a release of liability that our shop stated their car was unsafe to leave the premises and that they were aware of the danger. Because of the condition of the tire and that I was genuinely concerned for their safety, I offered them a new steel wheel and tire at cost. I even offered to waive the costs of labor. Nope not this customer, I only want my oil changed.
Not all mechanics are out here trying to drive up prices and perform useless repair work. Some of us genuinely do care about our customers and providing them with excellent service. I hope they made it safely to their next destination...

For those hitting the ocean and waves this summer.
This is really simple. You can spot a rip current. Unfortunately, it's where it looks easiest and safest to enter the sea. This is because the rip current is looping around and pulling back OUT. Hence no waves rolling IN. NEVER ENTER THE SEA HERE. If you are already in the sea and get caught in a rip current (you'll know because you will suddenly be moved from your location and it will be impossible to swim against it) don't panic. Swim ACROSS, not against the rip current. For example, rather than trying to swim to shore while being pushed out, swim parallel to the beach and you will be able to get out. Then you can swim ashore. Please educate friends or family visiting the beaches this summer. Stay safe 🙏

1924 My Dad at the top with his sister and brothers, Irish section of Chicago.
This was just before the Child Protective Services took them from their mother who was a hotel maid, the father having abandoned the family.
They were placed in a Catholic Orphanage, St. Mary's Training School where they lived, learned to work, and were trained in work-related fields.
When my dad graduated he could play drums, bugle, clarinet, harmonica, read music, classically sing, learned the typical subjects taught today, but also, Latin, Civics, carpentry, and other job related work and classroom studies.
All these children grew up to be financially successful; married, never divorced and had many children. All brothers (there is a fourth brother- a baby not in this photo) served in the U.S. Army in WWII. My father served in New Guinea, Pacific War, his brothers European Theater, one at the Normandy Landings as a medic, one fought infantry at the Rapidio River Campaign, both earned a Bronze Star.

Willie Nelson Rescued 70 Horses From a Slaughterhouse and Let Them Roam Free on His Ranch
Willie Nelson, the renowned musician has another reason to be loved, he is also a devoted horse lover. In fact, he went to great lengths to rescue 70 horses from being slaughtered. These fortunate horses now roam freely on his expnsive 700-acre ranch in Texas.
When he's not on tour, Nelson spends most of his time at Luck Ranch, which he considers his true home. The name Luck holds a special meaning for him in more ways than one. In an interview with Paul Venema from KSAT 12 News, Nelson expressed, When you're here, you're in Luck, and when you're not, you're out of Luck.
Undoubtedly, the horses are incredibly fortunate, and Nelson agrees. He shared with Venema, My horses are probably the luckiest horses in the world. They get hand-fed twice a day, and they were just ready to go to slaughter, which is probably the last thing they remembered. So, they're happy horses.
Nelson has always had a deep affection for horses. His song Ride Me Back Home is a testament to his love for these majestic creaturs. In 2015, Nelson even received an award for the music video of his song The Love of Horses. The video showcases Nelson meeting with members of Habtats for Horses, who were actively working to end horse slaughter through legislative efforts.
The love for horses runs in the family as well. Nelson's son, Lukas, supports organizations like Saving America's Horses and Habitat for Horses. Lukas Nelson & Promise, the younger Nelson's band, have also expressed their admiration for horses through their music.
At nearly 90 years old, Nelson shows no signs of slowing down or shying away from issues he feels strongly about. (Who can forget his album against Monsanto?) When asked about retirement, Nelson simply replied, I retire after every show. I say, 'That's it, I'm not goin' no more,' but then we hang out awhile and people [the band] feel like playing, and so we go play again.

On 7 January 1967, John Steinbeck was at Pleiku, Vietnam, where he flew aboard a UH-1 Huey helicopter with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry. He wrote the following about the helicopter pilots:
“I wish I could tell you about these pilots. They make me sick with envy. They ride their vehicles the way a man controls a fine, well-trained quarter horse. They weave along stream beds, rise like swallows to clear trees, they turn and twist and dip like swifts in the evening. I watch their hands and feet on the controls, the delicacy of the coordination reminds me of the sure and seeming slow hands of (Pablo) Casals on the cello. They are truly musicians’ hands and they play their controls like music and they dance them like ballerinas and they make me jealous because I want so much to do it. Remember your child night dream of perfect flight free and wonderful? It’s like that, and sadly I know I never can. My hands are too old and forgetful to take orders from the command center, which speaks of updrafts and side winds, of drift and shift, or ground fire indicated by a tiny puff or flash, or a hit and all these commands must be obeyed by the musicians hands instantly and automatically. I must take my longing out in admiration and the joy of seeing it. Sorry about that leak of ecstasy, Alicia, but I had to get it out or burst.”

Times are heavy, we all know.
But my 18 year-old daughter made me laugh more than I had in a while.
She had toast with peanut butter and bananas sliced on top and sprinkled it with cinnamon sugar that I already have mixed in a shaker. It is an old bottle that was originally cinnamon but after it was empty I thought why not re use it. Mind you this was 2014 or so (yes I washed it before I added the mixture and continue to do so each time we run out 😉).
She says to me after her toast is ready
“Mom you know what is so my childhood?” And I ask what?
She said “the cinnamon sugar shaker.”
Me being caught off guard, I said “the one in the spice rack?”
“Yep....it reminds me so much of when we were little and the 1000’s of times when you made us toast. The warm toast and the melted butter and then the best part - the cinnamon sugar mix!”
I said “Well ok but that’s kind of strange. That brings you that much joy?”
“It’s all the memories Mom, it’s all the memories” with this sappy little grin on her face.
She pulls it out, shows it to me and said “the silver lid isn’t even the right one and the words are getting rubbed off.”
And as I stand there and realize she’s right - in one little bottle we can recall countless times of breakfast and snacks that include cinnamon & sugar from that special little shaker.
She’s so happy recalling some of those moments.
Then as she’s walking away she asks,
“Can I take it to my apartment in the fall? (Sophomore year in a new apartment).
I said well why don’t I just buy you a new shaker and she says “it won’t be the same mom.” 😭 ❤️😭
She may be grown and almost flown but she’s still my little girl and will always want her cinnamon & sugar from that shaker.
And I think I will let her take it.

Photographed by Martin Schoeller for The New Yorker in 2002 I was hired by the New Yorker in 2002 to photograph Robin Williams, and after doing my research what stood out most for me was that he was a very physical comedian. I came up with this idea to photograph him swinging from a chandelier in a grand hotel room. Most publicists shoot down these kinds of wild ideas, so I didn't tell anyone what I was up to, but rigged up a chandelier at the Waldorf Astoria hotel for him to swing from. When Robin got there and saw what was happening, he lifted up his shirt and showed me this enormous scar on his shoulder. He'd just had surgery and couldn't so much as lift his arm. He was so disappointed! He really felt bad about not being able to do it, because he loved the idea and really wanted to help me accomplish my vision. Unlike most Hollywood stars, he was unfazed by his success and position. He talked to everyone from stylists to the crew, to the hotel staff. We ended up asking a maid at the hotel to swing from the chandelier instead, and I asked him to just sit there and read a newspaper, which I think in the end was an even funnier, more unexpected picture.

This guy named John has been coming into my work for years. I told him I was going to Vietnam next week with my girlfriend. He told me he was over there during the fall of Saigon and helped orphan babies get on evacuation planes and helicopters as a Marine. I told him I was one of those babies. He looked at me, his eyes started to well up and said he might have held me in his arms during the rescue mission (Operation Babylift).
We talked for a while and I thanked him dearly for his service and kindness. In the end, he told me he'll sleep better tonight knowing that a small innocent baby has now grown up with a better life in America. What an amazing man you are John. And thank you again for your service! I'm no longer an orphan. ❤️ ❤️❤️

Those are not my real b***s. Let me explain. It was the first day of kindergarten for my youngest child and I arrived at the classroom to pick her up at the end of the day. All of the children were running up to their parents proudly displaying their new drawings of flowers, hearts and animals.
My daughter thrust her picture into my face, beaming, 'It's you and me!'
I looked down at the picture. Of b***s. Really, really big b***s. Yes, MY little artist didn't draw hearts or flowers...she drew an EXTREMELY inaccurate depiction of her mommy for all the world to see.
'Wow!' I said. 'Just...wow!'
Laughing to myself during the drive home, I was imagining the teacher probably thought Dolly Parton was coming to pick up this child. I bet she was a little surprised when it was just me and my B-cups that strolled through the classroom door that afternoon.
I love this drawing because it is a reminder of how our children can view us so differently than we view ourselves. Look at me here...my b***s are perky, my hair is thick and bouncy, I have a perfect, tiny nose, and my smile is bright.
I mean, really, I've never looked better. And if that's how my daughter chooses to see me, I will treasure it forever. 😊
